Doing side of personality includes characteristic adaptations, which are psychological factors such as person’s goals, coping strategies, values, and beliefs. It answers to questions how does one reaches for things one wants, or avoids or copes with the things one is afraid of. (McAdams & Pals, 2006; Melchert, 2011; Metsäpelto & Feldt, 2009).
Smith & Alloy (2008) have related rumination in their studies to other constructs such as negative automatic thoughts, private self-consciousness, self-focus, maladaptive type of self-relevant repetitive thinking, intrusive thoughts, obsessions, worry, emotion regulation and coping, neuroticism, and social and emotional competence and emotional intelligence. They state that a development of narrative identity happens slowly over time when people tell stories about their experiences to and with others. It continues to develop across the adult lifespan. A Person must first learn how to share stories that are accordance with families, peers, and other formal and informal social contexts to develop narrative identity. Therefore, early parent-child conversations about personal events play a critical role for learning how to make meaning out of them. Then, stories about personal experiences are shaped and influenced through continuous interactions with other people. A person keeps the personal story one created, if important people in person’s life agree with the interpretation of the story.
