I should receive a DCU because I believe that it will allow me to be able to further my education and pursue my dreams that I have. This scholarship will help me pay for my college tuition and classes. The college I plan on attending will be in North Carolina so I will be paying in state tuition and I’m trying my best to lower the cost of that. I want to major in art or architecture and I plan on working for a major architecture business of even running my own business. If not that then I plan to become a famous artist, I am confident in my ability to do both of those because I have been studying art in high school from the beginning courses all the way to the independent study courses where I choose my own projects. I am Hispanic, and I am different. Being different is something in which I take pride in. Therefore I believe that the University of Houston is where I belong. This scholarship will give me the opportunity to study in the place in which I belong while achieving my dreams of becoming a doctor. I was given the opportunity to study elsewhere, but since I heard the University of Houston is ranked second in the nation at diversity; I want to study and achieve my dreams here.
The life I have had so far has taught me a lot about academic and life skills; from when I was about six to the age I am now. I am always learning and happy to learn new things. I might not know what I want right now, but I do know that I want something for my life; I want to go to college, so I could make the future I see happen. I plan to graduate from College of the Sequoias with an Associate’s Degree in communications and to maintain a grade point average of at least a 3.7. Once I earn my degree, I will transfer to a university where I will begin to work on my master’s degree. With my master’s degree I can pursue my dream of working for Disney Parks in public relations. While I am still a college student, I will apply and hopefully be given the opportunity to participate in the Disney College Program as well as a Disney Professional Internship. These internships will help me to learn more about working in the field of communications, to gain practical experience and to network with individuals who can help me achieve my career goals. A scholarship would be incredibly helpful for me to achieve all that I intend to by allowing me to devote more time to my school work. Since I currently work two jobs, as a tutor and as a sales associate, it is often difficult to find time and energy to complete my schoolwork. In a world where most college freshmen do not graduate or dropout, i feel like it would mean to much more to me to graduate and be able to say I got my degree. studies have said that half of freshman will not complete there degree, another study said that 25% of freshmen will change their major before they finish their sophomore year. The opportunity to receive this scholarship would allow myself to further my education because going to college is something i’ve always planned to do since I was little. As of right now, I will be the first to attend college since before my grandparents. To have this opportunity and chance would really mean a lot to not only myself, but my family.
