I am applying as a transfer applicant in pursuit of new opportunities such as connecting with the surrounding community and students, engaging with the academic material, and working to better the community with my fellow students. Upon transferring, I will immediately seek to meet new people in order to learn more about different backgrounds and reach out my fellow students to better the surrounding community. I believe that when groups of people are centered on a common goal, such as community service, they grow closer together by developing greater understandings of each other. As for academics, I may have declared a major and set a career path, but I embrace change and hope to discover new passions to pursue. My family life was largely centered on Christian beliefs. My parents believed, when I turned seven, that if I were to continue attending school with other children, I would be corrupted by the “system.” In order to prevent their “fragile” son from being indoctrinated with anti-Christianity views, they kept my worldviews safe through homeschooling. An educational system unique in every imaginable way; I thought that this would be “my best fit.” My initial excitement quickly wore off when I realized that I did not fit in as well as I initially thought. My class had a total enrollment of ten students and they were more religious than my family – far from the diverse academic experience I sought. By the end of my junior year, I was able to convince my parents that I needed a more diverse, academic structure. I shared with my parents the amount of growth I had been through, both academically and socially, and in addition, I shared with them one of my favorite quotes from Jonathan Livingston Seagull, “The gull sees farthest who flies highest.” It was time that I flew
