The Controversy of Chiropractic Chiropracting was introduced into my life during a soccer practice when I took an incorrect step. All the weight of my body when straight to my lower back. I heard a single pop then an excruciating pain pulsed through my body. The pain was so intense it caused me to have to stop practice and sit on the sidelines for the rest of the night. Throughout the rest of that week the pain would go on and off, even sitting down for dinner I could feel the pain going up my spine. It was so strong that, I couldn’t do anything that I wanted to with my friends because of the pain even a small jump would send a jolt of pain, crippling me. Finally I decided to go to a doctor to find out what was wrong with me and when the doctor started to feel my lower back and whenever he got near it I would try to run away so he wouldn’t touch my lower back because it was so sensitive. Final towards the end of the doctor appointment the doctor had a brief idea about what is was that was killing me, he believed that I had a muscle spasm. However, one thing chiropractors are very well at is satisfying their patients. Most patients actually rank them above medical doctors in the concern they put into about their problems, understanding their concerns, amount of time spent listening to a description of their pain, information provided about the cause of their pain, making them feel welcome, and other factors related to the art of fulfilling human needs (Cherkin). Although it is important for physicians to differentiate between mere patient satisfaction and true clinical effectiveness, it seems that they could learn something from chiropractors about meeting the emotional needs of suffering
