Personal Narrative: The Classic Idea Of Success

The idea of success is kind of cliche and overused. If by now a person hasn’t realized that success looks different on everyone than they have been living under a rock. However i’ve discovered the entirety of people I know have apparently been huddled together under that same rock. So I’m going to start by talking about the classic idea of success. I know that when I’ve met certain people the question of “what do you want to be when you grow up” is asked? Well a great number of people share this great story of this life adventure of med school, and six kids, and a house that hangs over the ocean with a husband who wakes you up with a cup of scalding hot coffee. I know one thing and that is failure doesn’t really exist. Failure is the result of fearing success. It’s when you’re so utterly terrified of disappointing yourself that you start to fear trying. This is because we all know even if we wake up to that cup of coffee we aren’t going to be any happier. In a person’s life success is never truly achieved to a person’s content, until they accept that failure is only a stigma of fear.

When I was a kid I had this theory. If my head was high and my wallet was full I wouldn’t need anything else in life. Well i’m sorta still that kid but in the past few months i’ve come to a revelation. Success is very different in all eyes(-especially the eyes attached to my parents heads!). My parents are traditional so they have a plan for me. They want me to graduate, go to some high end university and find my way into law school. After that they expect me to get married, have kids, die old and “happy”. In my opinion that’s an insult. I think i’m capable of greater things. I think i’m capable of squeezing out of that traditional wife role, and I definitely think i’m independent
