Summer is time for friends, relaxation, and memories, but my summer was none of that. Summer going into freshman year was not the best because of school. Well even before I went into high school I heard stories from my cousins and other students about bullying and being thrown a penny at because I would be freshman. I was frightened for a whole month before school started. I remember asking my cousin how did he deal with all of that in school and he said “just collect all the pennies and save them and let the bullies beat you up”. You might think i was overreacting unless if you heard the way he was saying it. Walking into the hallways of Buffalo grove high school scared and cautious I enter my classroom, looking left and right,
have fun during the summer by skipping class and going to the beach. Finny also
High school is meant to be the time of your life, but for most seniors just like me it can be some of the most emotional and crazy time. The things in my past make me who I am today, and the things I do now are the first footsteps into the future. I’ve learned a lot about myself in these past four years, and I still have so much learning to do. This is my high school story; the good, bad, and the ugly.
When I was entering into High School, I tried to join as many clubs as I can, since I wanted not only to be superior in grades, but also extracurricular activities. So as usual, I joined Key Club. At first volunteering at the events was fun, but as I went to more events, it felt as if it was a chore. I did not feel any passion; it was rather tiresome.
I was told that this, my junior year, would be the easiest year of my high school career. And no, they were absolutely wrong. It was not just school and grades that I was concern about either. I had other things to worry about, things like, driving, clubs, friends and family. I however had no idea that it would be this difficult. Throughout this school year I have learned many things; like the value of sleep, whose really your friend, and that although very important, grades are not everything.
Entering in the fall of my freshman year in high school, I was somewhat reluctant to start school again. I had done nothing all summer, all I ever did was wake up and glue myself to the couch. I felt like I had wasted three months and was not prepared to take on responsibilities. I needed a vacation to take my mind out of this box
Everyone seemed to be having the time of their lives, the feeling of being free from high school finally sinking into their minds. Forgetting about all of their problems for the night, and letting loose. My mom always says that I’ll regret this when I grow up; not living the full high school experience. But what is really considered the “high school experience”? It is just going to parties, homecoming dances, prom, and being in relationships? How cliché.
I remember when summer was three months full of free time and having fun with your friends but as we grow up those days seem to thin out! This summer went by really fast for me. It seems like just yesterday we were finishing up the last day of my junior year. Although my summer was super busy I still had a pretty good time!
Do you remember your first week of high school? Most people when it comes to their first week of high school they remember it like it was yesterday. In my essay I will tell what my first week of high school was for me. My topics will tell how my first week was interesting yet boring.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is to never give up and that everything in life happens for a reason. Throughout my entire life my dreams have been put down by society, wether it was a coach, friend, or family member. Everything I gain is because of me and only me. When I started my first year of high school, I knew I wasn't ready to maintain my academics, my social life, and my sports schedule all at once. I was completely intimidated by everything occurring in my life at the time.
Going into the first day of senior year I could hear some of my classmates asking each other “so when does summer vacation begin”? I, for one, was excited to see what senior had to offer and what was to come. As June approached I was ready for summer vacation. I was ready for no more homework, no more essays and tests and no more waking up at 6 in the morning. Summer vacation is a time for students to relax and recharge from their nine months of school so they could be recharged for the next nine months to come.
During Spring Break I went to Memphis, Tennessee with a couple of friends. The first day we were there we decided we wanted to have some of the Memphis famous ribs. We did not know which restaurant was the best one to go, but with some research online we found this place called Rendezvous. It had five stars on Yelp and Trip Advisor and several good reviews. People were saying they served the best ribs in town, their service is great, and the location is very interesting. All these were green lights for me and my friends to go there, so we did. I was surprised to see that the place seemed like it had not change a thing since 1948 when they first opened. They have a unique vibe, memorabilia all over the walls, and the aroma of great barbecue. There were several people in line when we got there, but the place and the smell made us stay and wait in line to get a table. After asking for a table they gave us their menu to see. This helped us get ready
It goes without saying that the academic value of a summer school is significant and so will aid me propel to new heights. The value of attendance at a summer school goes beyond the obvious academic benefits, helping students develop valuable life skills. Interacting with students all over the world, results in a cosmopolitan environment and friendships formed with people all kinds of nationalities. Mixing with peers from all walks of life and multiple nationalities, develops the students poise and inspires them. The value of a summer school does not end with its benefits to your school work, university applications and social life.
Warm sand, cool water, tanning at the beach, these are all things we love about summer, and quite frankly what we expect. Imagine my disappointment when my summer was the exact opposite. This past summer I decided was going to be my most productive summer yet. However I would soon come to see that it was by far the most stressful and heartbreaking summer I have ever had.
For students, summer can be a time of chaos, because after the school year ends, all daily routines crash and burn. It can feel like crazy and the wish to go back to school and to a routine slowly but surely builds up. Instead of waking up every day at the same time, eating breakfast, and getting on the school bus, kids have plenty of time to sleep and do whatever they please without the factor of time coming into play. During the school day, kids have to learn and participate in a variety of activities, but during summer, the only chance they get to see their school friends comes when they attend some kind of summer camp, whether it be daycare, band camp or STEM camp. Without the normal social interaction children, both young and older are used too, they can pull away from people because they get stuck with their relatives, opposed to people their own age.
Fun, scaring, exciting are the feelings of my first week of school. This is a brand new experience of my life having to leave my friends and teachers in middle school behind. New school, new friends and new teachers are all part of this new school year. This one is different though, it’s the first week of high school.
