“Santa is Coming to Town”
Since I was very young, my mother would always put our Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving. I always hated decorating the tree every year just to take it down in a month. Though, my mother would always say, “you never know when it will be your last Christmas.” As I became older I realized every year more and more family would come over to help decorate the tree. It soon became a whole family tradition for people to come to our house and bring their favorite decorations and come deck the halls. Being a teenager, I always wanted to skip decorating some stupid tree and go out with my friends and go shopping while my family stayed home decorating our tree. I realize more every day that just getting to live for another year to spend the holidays with my family means more to me than any gift I could ever receive. I noticed while researching that a lot of the things that I probably take for granted wasn’t always allowed or maybe even thought of decades before. It truly makes me realize how lucky I am to have had the family that was so oriented around the holidays and that come together every year to celebrate it. Even though growing up I hated having to stay and decorate the same tree that I have been decorating for years now. I thought it was truly just about decorating the tree and house. When really Christmas will always have a place in my heart and I will continue my family’s traditions around Christmas. Some teenagers are just like I was back then and don’t realize how annoying things like decorating a Christmas tree or hanging decorations are truly memory making moments and that is why I choose to right about this value of mine because it’s getting to be the holidays and I think things like this go unthought of in many homes. The holidays are times to spread holiday spirit and go out and make a difference in someone’s life. It doesn’t take a lot of time or a lot of money, just involves getting out and getting involved.
