Personal Narrative: My Name Off Social Media

I googled my name in different variety of way to obtain the best results for example, Jenna Coffey New Carlisle, OH, Jenna Coffey, and Jenna Brooke Coffey. The information I found was my age, city I live in and year I was born. This makes me extremely uncomfortable. Not only is that information exposed to the world-wide web about me but it so shows information about my family. Fortunately I was unable to find my Facebook , Instagram, and twitter account using my real name. This was reassuring for me. Subsequently, working at a prison (40 miles from my home) and a hospital in my community I have already taken precautions concerning my privacy. Currently, the name on my Facebook, twitter and Instagram is Jenn Brooke. Therefore, by taking my last name off social media and using “Jenn” instead of “Jenna” has helped with problems I have already faced in my current occupations. …show more content…

Personally, I would not want a client to see anything about me that was not correlated to my profession. “It is important that counselors do not mix their personal and professional virtual presence if they use social media” (pg.258). I have run into issues pertaining to patients and offenders contacting me though social media. For example, a offender got out of the prison I work at and set me a video message on Facebook. This offender demanded that I call him and threatened me if this did not happen. This video frightened me because this inmate was out of prison and stated in this video he lived in Dayton, Ohio. I live 15 miles from Dayton, Ohio. I immediately contacted my worked and sent my Facebook information to investigator so they could sign onto my account and watch this horrific video. The investigator did not help me. I franticly deactivated all my social media accounts. I was hysterical and thought this offender would find me and hurt me because of the threats he made at me if I did not contact
