I have lived in Wilmington, Delaware my whole life. Wilmington is perfectly located on the I-95 corridor. This allows for easy access to many cities with great sports teams and amazing historical venues. I can travel south to Baltimore, Maryland for a Ravens game in 1 hour 30 minutes or to Washington, DC for a Capitals game in 2 hours. Additionally, if I travel north, Philadelphia is 20 minutes from my home. So I can fly out of PHL to another city or attend a Flyers game at the drop of a hat. New York City is another 90 minutes from Philly, so Wilmington is strategically located and a desired place live upon graduation. The only downside to living in Wilmington is the weather. Whenever there is a nor’easter, Wilmington, Delaware is always …show more content…
As I compare my desired starting salary of 60K with the two cities listed above the salary for Myrtle would be approximately 22% lower to $52,712, while the salary in Philly would be approximately 21% higher to $67,571. These numbers do not tell the whole story. Groceries, transportation and utilities are roughly 10% higher in Philadelphia. Additionally groceries and transportation are roughly 2-5% lower in Myrtle. Utilities are slightly higher in Myrtle, but that can be directly tied to the warm weather and the use of air conditioning 10 months out of the year. Health insurance is slightly lower in both cities, but I expect those numbers will adjust with the timing of the new administration and the probable repeal of Obamacare. The major deciding factor with regards to when I will live upon graduation will be invariably being the housing cost. In Philadelphia the cost of housing is 25% higher than Wilmington. Calculating the numbers, the 21% increase in salary will be completely absorbed by groceries, transportation and utilities leaving no room for a 25% increase in housing, thus making Philadelphia an unaffordable option. Conversely, Myrtle Beach only had a 5% increase in utilities, with all other categories including housing as a reduced cost. While the comparable salary is 22% lower the housing in Myrtle Beach is 35% lower than Wilmington, Delaware. Clearly my income will go further in Myrtle and this is something I will consider. Living at the beach is my ultimate life
An attraction to the suburbs for someone looking to raise a family is the suburbs generally contain less crime, less congestion and more isolation from a fast pace life.
It has been said that the grass is always greener on the other side. Being excited about the newness and challenges of a new place may not enable it to stay green for a lifetime, but the new place is a great place to spend the next four years. So even though I lived my whole high school life in one city where there were no actual problems, it still was time for me to move where there were new experiences.
Naturally, one of the biggest decisions you will need to make is whether you prefer to live in the city or if a suburb is the better option for you. Deciding between these items could affect your school district options, cost of living and the options you have for housing.
Forty seconds left until game time. Here we go again, versing one of our biggest rivals, Belleville West. As usual, I’m starting. Defense has always been my go to position and this year I’m playing right back. The air around us is cold, considering we aren’t quite in spring yet. Eleven of us disperse on to the field, all in blue, determined to win. The referee blows his whistle, piercing our ears, and twenty two pairs of feet stir into action. Our back line is staring at the ball move towards the goal when suddenly things turn around. Hurriedly we shift to the left, ensuring the ball is put to a stop. Hannah boots the ball up the long green field and we’re all hopeful. West is playing hard; aggressive is their style. They win possession. Back
I would have preferred to live in Pennsylvania out of all the thirteen colonies. Pennsylvania was a very prosperous colony due to the fact that everyone had economic opportunity. Also, the people had civil liberty, allowing them to surpass the other colonies that had multiple restrictions. In addition, they had religious freedom unlike other colonies. Pennsylvania had many great features compared to the other colonies.
Other than the fact that Portland was named the best American city in 2013 by Movoto Blog, the city’s natives have always considered it the best place to live because all of the things it has to offer. Such as its relative low cost of living compared to other major west coast cities. Although the cost of living is a little above the national average, when compared to cities like Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, Portland proves to be a much more affordable city in almost every aspect. Not to mention that many of the homes in Portland are extremely unique and creative which makes the Portland experience just that much better.
I was in Ohio when I first came to America as an Chinese exchange student, I live in a little town surrounded by endless corn fields, basically in the middle of nowhere. I went to a small public high school, which has only 2 Chinese students, including me. All of a sudden my world is completely changed, nothing from my old days is left, and I’m totally not ready for that. I got so homesick, I began to miss everything about China, people, food, and of course, language. That’s probably the reason why I was so eager to speak Chinese every time I meet the other Chinese girl.

Moving can have different effects depending on the person. In my condition, moving changed my personality to become more introverted, and less extroverted. As I became more mature I started to realize that everyone’s opinion of me didn’t matter and at the end everyone has their own insecurities about
I still remember back in the year 2005 while I still lived in the city of New Bedford, M.A. with my family. I lived with my mother, father, and my little sister. It was always us four as a family we were always together thru the bad times and the good times. We lived there for quite a while but I enjoyed it very much. As a child I loved playing outside with friends and neighbors we played almost everything especially sports. I remember our favorite sport we played almost every day was baseball. My favorite position was always first base, pitcher, shortstop, and outfield. I loved the adrenaline it brings to me when I play baseball I automatically felt energized, those were the days. Living in New Bedford every summer my father and I with some
Two factors that impact where I’d prefer to reside at include the learning resources and outdoor activities that I have access to. By working in a hospital for years, it is apparent that I learn best through case-based
My main reason for having such a strong urge to move to a city like New York is the variety of entertainment such a city offers, such as shopping, unique eateries, and shows like concerts and musicals. During my stay in New York, I was s...
Generally speaking, life in the city is more hectic and clamorous. While a vast majority of Americans pack themselves into our major cities, there are still millions who live outside of the cities. Certainly, there are a lot more activities in the city: shopping malls and restaurants galore, thrift stores, libraries, and concert...
One major issue affecting many people trying to make the decision on where to live is their quality of life in either extreme. Health, education, transportation are three major concerns that many consider. In a city, pollution surrounds you wherever you step whether on the streets of a busy financial district or on the lawn of a large park. Pollution could possibly cause health problems later in life. In the country, pollution is scarce. Fresh air, rolling green hills, a few pieces of litter here and there but pretty much everything is clean, and wow! No smog, you can see the stars! In the country, childhood education, kindergarten through twelfth grade, is significantly better than in a large city; smaller class sizes and larger budgets create excellent learning environments. In cities, public schools are often plagued with very large classes packed into small spaces. Teachers with low pay, and little or no dedication are thrown into classrooms to teach, resulting in poor education. Transportation is very accessible in city environments. Public transportation, by way of subways, busses and ferries, are cheap and easy ways of getting around a metropolis, whether going out to work, school, or for a night on the town. In the country, everyone needs to have access to his or her own vehicle. A commute to work or school is about an average of forty-five minutes!
There are numerous differences between living in a small town or a big city. Small towns and big cities each have their unique advantages and disadvantages. Where a person grows up plays an integral part in shaping their personality. And, sometimes a person’s personality can have a great impact on their preference of where to live. Preferring a small town or big city is a very individual matter. Different people have different reasons for favoring one over the other. Personally, and admitting that my views are shaped by my personal experiences, I believe the advantages of growing up in a small town – as long as that small town is in reasonably close proximity to a decent sized city.
