Everyone has peaceful and strange events that occurred in their lifetime. There are several chances that one expects something pleasant to happen and it comes true. On the other side, an occasion doesn’t appear when somebody expects it. I can explain this with my personal account of Hurricane Sandy, an event that occurred on October 29, 2012 and ended on November 2, 2012. This affected the northeast portion of the United States. As a result of this event, I had lost power, had a tough time doing tasks, and took my education away. On the other hand, I was thankful that the disaster ended a few days later.
The mystery began as soon after I woke up in the morning. First, I got out of my bed and ran to the bathroom. When I flicked the light switch to view the materials, I realized that it didn’t operate. After I tried again five more times, I ran to my mom and asked her what was going on, and she replied, “There is no power and electricity in the apartment.” I said to myself, “What do we even do at this point?” I looked through the windows of my living room and saw a mess on the street. After completing my morning tasks, I sat on my computer chair trying to settle down from all the panic and chaos that made everything go haywire. I received math and language arts homework from school few days ago, but I didn’t have access to the textbook online to complete it since my computer didn’t operate. I should've brought my textbooks home the day I copied down my homework, but I did not see anything coming, especially this storm. I had always completed my school work the earliest time as possible, so I didn’t have to do it the next days with more work. On October third 2002, I was eight years old when Hurricane Lili hit the state of Louisiana. On that intense windy and rainy day, my Pastor, Mark Briggs and his daughter, Marla, decided to venture out in search of those that needed aid and assistance. Driving through their beautifully wooded neighborhood they encountered a, once strong, oak that had fallen in the middle of the street. While this wasn’t the “rescue” they had expected; it would, however, allow emergency vehicles passage to those in need, As Pastor wrapped the clunky chain around the base of the fallen tree, his truck’s front end wench moaned and groaned, in the effort to move this tree to the side of the road.
Planet Earth is under attack by the very entities charged with its protection. Human beings are systematically destroying the planet and are deaf to its, so far, relatively subtle warnings. When temperatures rise by just a fraction of a degree, or yearly precipitation amounts increase by just an inch or two, these changes can be imperceptible. However, when these small changes accumulate after a period of years they can result in natural disasters that are uncommon to certain geographic areas. Ocean temperatures have steadily been on the rise for years. These changing temperatures have the potential to irrevocably change weather patterns for the entire world. In August of 2011, Hurricane Irene gave much of the east coast of the United States a taste of what changes in global weather patterns can do. The hurricane showed many communities how vastly underprepared, and unequipped they are to deal with such a storm, and it served as a wake up call to the human race, to take better care of the planet. A case study of these realizations can be viewed through the prism of severe weather related events at the Humane Society of Ocean City.
In August 2005, at the tender age of 7, I received the most devastating news. I was told by my family that a hurricane was coming to my city, New Orleans, Louisiana. Because of this storm, Hurricane Katrina, I was told that I would most likely have to move away for a long time, meaning the rest of my life. My family and I lost everything, and the hurricane ended up destroying the entire city completely. This was heartbreaking to me for a plethora of reasons, including that I lost loved ones and was separated from the rest of my family at such an early age. This ravaging storm marked the most drastic change of my life.
I remember the long-term recovery of Hurricane Katrina. I remember watching the news seeing people on the roof after the hurricane. I remember the families crying, pleading for help. Men walking, carrying babies asking to send more help. Women holding their children for dear life. The hospitals abandoned patients stuck with no help. Senior citizens cold restless, wanting shelter. Markings on houses and buildings of the number of bodies they found dead.
Changing places can be very difficult sometimes. Starting a life in a different place that you might not be used to or just living a different lifestyle. I went through that phase many times. The first time was because something that had a big impact in my life happened. My mom and dad gotten divorced. It mostly affected me because I was the oldest and had much more memories with my dad than my brother and sister.
Ok. One night my sister and I were at my father’s house. He lives in Kingsville on 10 maybe 9 acres of land in this [small pause, looks at ceiling] I wouldn’t really call it a farmhouse, just a kind of small house out there. The previous person who lived in the house was supposedly shipped to an asylum, for, you know, normal stuff [pause] schizophrenic or something. My sister and I were at the house one night and we were cleaning up the house while my dad was on some sort of job out of the state and my step mom was at work in the hospital. We were doing our stuff, and then the power flickered, and came back on. We didn’t think anything of it. Then, outside of the door, we heard a noise, kinda like a dog barking, but like, just enough not so that we knew it wasn’t. So, we hear this noise, and start to get fre...
One thing that really bothers me is how much I changed. I used to play games all day, not focus on school, wouldn't get in serious trouble, and was very innocent compared to my present day self. There are cons and pros of my past self compared to how I am currently. I am more happy of how I am now then I am before. As time changes, so do I and I can not stop that. What’s done has already been done and can’t be changed so you always have to look towards the future and never the past. The past will not definite who you are today unless you let it. I would have never expect that I would be transferred to a continuation high school in my freshman year. It is a bad thing to many people, but I am thankful that I am sent to it because I will learn

Next week is the five year anniversary of my dads passing. He went to be with the Lord on June 14th. Seven days shy of his birthday. Especially the ones my father sat. I spent far more time with my mom, but the time I spent with dad was always special. Dad really did teach by example. I can remember shopping as a family. Kids want to touch everything. Dad always told me to put my hands in my pockets. If I didn’t have pockets, I was to put my arms behind my back and hold my wrist. For most people, becoming a parent is one of the greatest moments in their lives. I never understood the true meaning of love until I became a father. Little did I know; I would also learn the tragedy of loss.
The story about I Martranika Gross, called changing my life. It all begin with many ideals that I had in mind to become while changing my life so my daughter will fix in. First was continue my education at Strayer University and a journey to follow. Next, becoming a role model with a pathway lay out for my daughter, a showing her not to stay you can’t to become successful. Finally, overcome obstacles first you have to have faith within yourself, and the key word is knowledge.
Some people, some great people deserve to live forever, or at least die in a worthy or in a fulfilling way. I just got the short end of the bargain, I just got one of the worst things on this earth, cancer. Anyone can get the disease, but the way I see it, it seems unfair and unruly that pure souls could end up with a painful and undeserving demise. Unfortunately, I was one of those pure souls.
The one person who has influenced my life the most is my dance teacher from middle school, Mrs Linden. Mrs Linden is the dance teacher at Sunnymead Middle School, and has taught there for many years. She was my dance teacher for all three years that I was there, as she inspired me alot. My life has changed for the better since I met her because she has taught me to fight for what I want and to not give up on something I love which is dance. She believed in me when many did not.
In life, many things are taken for granted on a customary basis. For example, we wake up in the morning and routinely expect to see and hear from certain people. Most people live daily life with the unsighted notion that every important individual in their lives at the moment, will exist there tomorrow. However, in actuality, such is not the case. I too fell victim to the routine familiarity of expectation, until the day reality taught me otherwise.
