Going to Yellowstone park for the first time was very exciting and scary. First, my dad bought the tickets for my family. Then he drove us to the park.My dad drove the car for maybe 1 hour. Suddenly ,I saw many people stopped and looking along the road. I wondered why many people stood here. "What happened?" I asked my mom. I use the telescope to see what happened. And I saw something, something very huge, it was a bear! A grizzly bear! "Wow!"I gasped and get out of the car and takes a lot of Photos to thes big brown bear. Then I was saw something unusual, a guy was trying to get Closed to the grizzly bear! Someone shouted, "That guy is crazy!" Then I looking for that guy,now he and brown bear was only a few feet apart! Then the Bear stand
Zig-zag, back and forth, down, down, down, Jonathon, Dad, and I went into a mysterious new world. Now that I have gone into this hot, dry canyon surrounded by monstrous hoodoos, I have seen what it is really like to leave the small town of Seymour, and emerge into the greatness of this world. I have now seen several other National Parks on one of the most renowned places on earth for mysterious creations, the Colorado Plateau. Of all the beautiful places on it, even the Grand Canyon, I have found my favorite one. Bryce Canyon National Park. I thought it was amazing, because it was the most diverse to anything I have ever seen before. We hiked down into it and I felt like I was surrounded by skyscrapers. I am sitting in the passenger side as my dad is driving, and we are on our way to my grandpa's land which is located about 25 minutes east of Dubuque. First thing we do when we get there is to finish putting on our coats, and then to grab our bows out of the back, then I close my door softly. Walking through the open field I have dead weeds and tall grass crunching under my boots, and at the end of the field we reach a barbed wire fence that we crawl under. Then we cross under a bunch of pine trees and go about 30 yards into the woods to where my tree stand sits. Then my dad tells me good luck and he heads down into the gully where his stand is located. So I then climb the 12 foot ladder and sit on the seat and put on my safety belt and get my arrow ready on the bow string. I survey the land and look for any movement, so I look to the left where there is another set of pine trees, then I look in front of me into the first set of pine trees don't see anything yet. Then I hear a sound of crunching leaves and immediately look to my right and sure enough there is a big doe getting ready to cross the fence 15 yards away.
The next morning we decided to go back to the Grand Canyon to see it in the morning. We drove in and stopped at multiple viewing points that morning and got many more pictures. So when we stopped at some points my brother was climbing around and my mom was freaking out because it was icy and snowy and she was scared he was gonna fall. We also didn't spend a whole lot of time there because it was also only in the 20s that morning.
The mountains were tall (11,000 feet +) and covered with bright powdery snow. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. I was eager to set-up camp and prepare for our nine day hunt. But, Dad said that we had to drive around and check out all the good places, just to make sure that we were in the best area. This was partially understandable, but since I am a teenager I'm not supposed to understand anything! So, we spent another several hours driving. We went up and down through the mountains and then we saw it. The spot was beautiful; it was right on the edge of a vertical drop-off, over looking everything. It was like paradise, but colder!
A couple of years ago during one of those, on a whim after spending a few days in Arches National Park, my wife and I detoured to the snowy, icy south rim of the Grand Canyon. We journeyed toward it from the east side but got turned back at the National Parks’ gate; the road was snowed under from there on up. After retracing our steps, we traveled down to Flagstaff and spent the night, driving in my four by four truck up to the South Rim the next day. It was an eerie experience to stand on the edge of the South Rim and see only cloud; fog shrouded the canyon’s great gap, leaving us with visual doubts that anything was really there. Defeated, we hit the Visitor’s Center and gathered information so we could go back sometime in the spring or fall with weather more to our liking.

Have you ever looked off a gigantic cliff? Now imagine traveling 30 miles per hour on a bike with curvy roads with enormous cliffs on your side with no rails. This is exactly what I did with my family when we went to Colorado. From the hotel we drove to a bike tour place to take us to the summit of Pikes Peak. After we arrived at the building we saw pictures of how massive the cliffs were, but what terrified me was the fact they had no side rails. This observation was thrilling as well as terrifying. It was an odd mix of emotions, but I loved the adrenaline rush it gave me. My dad whispered to me, “ This will be absolutely horrifying”.
I almost fell off a cliff on the side of a mountain. I was in Pitkin, Colorado, on a camping trip during the summer of 2009. The trees were green, the air was fresh so were the lakes, rivers, and ponds were stocked with fish and wildlife was everywhere. Usually, on these camping trips, I would be accompanied by a large number of people. However, this time, it was just my parents, my three brothers, and my two sisters. I was almost 12 years old at the time and having three older brothers made me very competitive. Naturally, when my family decided to climb one of the mountain’s which were around us, I wanted to be the first one to reach its peak.
I was browsing Reddit when I stumbled across two photos one of Earth viewed from Saturn and of the rolling hills on Mars, they made me think back on the time when I went camping in my trailer in the Poconos. Like those pictures they made me think about how tiny and fragile and tiny Earth was. The tininess of the Earth reminds me of my fears with coming to Kutztown I was and am afraid I will get lost among the thousand of student just like a star floating in space. I was ten on our trip to the trailer in the woods.
In early September, we were asked to write about one of our most prominent Western adventures. I immediately thought about the most recent adventure I had. Visiting the Yosemite National Park. I chose this adventure for two reasons, the vast beauty of the Western figure and the fact that I was old enough to make the resemblance between the park and what we had been briefly discussing in class. Now, more than half-way through the semester, I have some different thoughts on the previous essay I wrote.
“Hey!” My brother, Srikar, exclaimed one fine morning, “We should partake in a road trip to Niagara Falls, then from there, we can include a self-guided tour of Washington D. C.” I supported that idea because I portrayed it as the best, most logical, but my parents, good lord, they had different ideas.
Curiosity will conquer fear even more than bravery will (James Stephens). On my first vacation to Wisconsin Dells in the winter of twenty-twelve, I went on an obstacle course that was above a blinding arcade. Walking across the different ledges and ropes was terrifying, but I did not let that stop me from trying. Now I know fear is not something that should hold me back, but something to push me forward.
Immediately, as my dad and I was walking to the deer stand, my thoughts were that this hunt already felt like any other night hunt I had ever been on. My dad and I together chose which stand we would hunt from the choices on the board. We arrived at the box stand, which was fifteen feet tall, then we climbed in and got comfortable. In the meantime, we were looking around to find any sign of a deer. Meanwhile, as we were sitting quietly in the stand, we suddenly heard something. We could tell that the noise was something running through the trees extremely fast! Suddenly, there she was, a doe, creeping out from the bushes. At that moment, I was only able to see her head. I was getting so nervous, and I didn 't know what to do; however, my dad told me to stay calm and breathe. As she was walking into the field, stopping along the way to eat, I prepared my gun in order to shoot. My dad told me to take the shot whenever I was ready, so within the next couple of seconds I pulled the trigger. BOOM! She’s down! I had shot her; however, I knew I hit her, but she ran
Along the way there were many species of wildlife. I saw numerous eye-catching reptiles, most of them were lizards that were multicolored with blues, yellows, reds, and oranges. At one point, I even saw a jet black snake with yellow speckles scattered throughout. Eventually, the path came out of the trees and led us to vast openness with nothing but saguaros and enormous mountains. As soon as I saw the opportunity, I pulled out my phone and started to take multiple pictures. However, when came back to reality and managed to pull my eyes away from my phone screen, that was when I actually took in nature’s beauty. When I looked through the gaping valley, it felt as if the world had halted to a stop and all my worries vanished. That was when I realized that it is honestly better to take mental pictures rather than taking physical
One of the most enjoyable things in life are road trips, particularly to the Colorado mountains. Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
