The personal mission for Melisa Horton, Inc. is to continue to grow and advance professionally and personally. Her current background, reputation, and work environment offer the opportunity for Melisa to establish herself in a senior role. This experience and education can be monopolized at her current company, but is quite marketable elsewhere as well.

I will establish my career working on the corrections side of Criminal Justice. Specifically working as a probation officer focusing on juveniles. I have long thought that I could make a difference in young people’s lives if I were able to get to them soon enough. By the time adults enter our correctional system the dye has been cast and it is much more difficult to get them back on the right path. It seems to me that keeping them on the right path to start with is a better approach. So, in five years that is exactly what I will be trying to do.

I see my life as a series of experiences that build upon one another and, through my hard work and determination, lead to overall long and short term goals that I have set for myself. There are thousands upon thousands of things that affect my life both directly and indirectly all of which have varying degrees of influence on me. Three areas of my life that most certainly have had a profound impact on me are scholarship, spiritual formation, and service. These three areas have affected me positively, and have motivated me to pursue higher levels of education, and have challenged me to set my lifetime goals higher. Though I'm not exactly sure where I will end up in life, I know that if I let my academics, spirituality, and service guide me, I will end up somewhere that I want to be.
The original name of my magazine is Social Purpose. It will focus on events in Canada that occur in the hopes of enriching the lives of the people who live here. This might include protests, charity events, major community events, or other occurrences intended to benefit local, or possibly marginalised, populations. Volunteer opportunities related to these types of events will also be covered, so that people who feel moved to do so have some ideas about how they can get involved in important issues affecting their communities and do some good.
I want to go into the field of ministry, as a youth pastor. To excel in this career I would lead weekly meetings for the youth in my church, plan missions trips, organize fun teen outings, and lead outreach activities in the community. These weekly meetings would consist of, in my opinion; games, food, fellowship and discipleship. The biggest task of these being discipleship, preparing a lesson for each group out of the bible. This task would probably take me one day to prepare a solid lesson for each day that can, and would relate to the kids and their needs as either middle schoolers or high schoolers.
Learning is a continuous process and the day that you stop learning is the day that you start decreasing your rewards and lower levels of satisfaction. My ardent desire to acquire knowledge has motivated me to pursue higher studies at graduate level, and to take up a career in research in industry.
