Treatments of those with mental illness and their recovery rates have been the focus of much study. In his study of the stigma of mental illness, Patrick W. Corrigan argues that clinical diagnosis intensifies the stigma experienced by those with mental illness and, in turn, diminishes their quality of life (31).
