In Tim O’Brien’s “Where Have You Gone Charming Billy”, the contrasting moods of the nightmarish rice patty and rejuvenating sea show that you can never leave your trauma behind when you come of age. Paul Berlin is a new soldier, fighting in the Vietnam War, afraid of being caught out, Paul and his troops had to head to the sea, but on their way, they had to pass a rice patty, it was all “mud and algae and cattle manure and chlorophyll, decay, breeding mosquitoes and leeches as big as mice, the fecund warmth of the paddy water rising up to his cut knee”. The work Double Jackie by Richard Pettibone is no larger than three inches in height and four inches in length. This work depicts a double portrait of a woman printed with black ink on silver foil. The foil lays horizontal, and a line divides it down the middle. The woman’s face repeats on both the left and right side of the foil. Her face tilts downward to the left corner. In total size, the work and its frame take up about one square foot on the wall. Though the frame seems large, the Double Jackie’s thin black frame, wide strip of matt board, and black background serve to emphasize the miniscule work behind the glass. I chose to view and analyze the film The Boondock Saints. There were many different things I focused on while viewing the film. I decided to brake them down into the following categories: narrative, theatrical elements, cinematography, sound, and the overall experience. I will begin with stating my personal interpretations and understandings of the narrative.
The auteur theory is a view on filmmaking that consists of three equally important premises: technical competence, interior meaning, and personal signature of the director. Auteur is a French word for author. The auteur theory was developed by Andrew Sarris, a well-known American film critic. Technical competence of the Auteur deals with how the director films the movie in their own style. Personal signature includes recurring themes that are present within the director’s line of work with characteristics of style, which serve as a signature. The third and ultimate premise of the Auteur theory is the interior meaning which is basically the main theme behind the film.

It’s an important story, reminding us that we must keep having discussions with teens about what sexual violence and sexual consent is and what it isn’t.

In the novel “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” by Mark Twain, Huck Finn is on a mission to help his fellow friend Jim. Jim is a runaway slave who is trying his best to escape the blinded society in the South and attain his freedom in the North. Throughout Huck and Jim’s journey, Huck encounters life-lessons that build up the strong individual he becomes at the end of the novel. Huck would fit in Kwajalein as a Kwaj kid because he’s very open-minded, he’s very adventurous, and he’s very helpful.

Throughout this reading by Garrett Hardin, he presented in a very scientific fashion, a theory of the population problem. He argued against the freedom to “breed”, with the worry that the worlds human population is growing exponentially even as our resources just become more limited. His conclusion when confronting this problem was that population needs to be controlled in some way. With the application of his theory he states that breeding rights is a common good, but the people that abuse that right are the ones pushing us closer to extinction. He points out the forces that he believes must change in order to stop the continued growth of population and after doing so he suggests solutions. This illustration depicts the prohibition period of alcohol between 1920’ and 30,’ the intention of the prohibition was to stop consumption, distribution, and purchase of alcohol. This experiment was a drastic failure of the government and society trying to take control of personal responsibility of the people.
