Who says parents are always right? Parents say parents are always right. Kids should be able to have a voice of their own, though. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Lord Capulet and Lady Capulet both think they know what is best for their daughter, Juliet; however, I do not believe they do. Lord and Lady Capulet even want to decide when and to whom Juliet will marry. Both Lord and Lady Capulet want Juliet to marry Paris who is a relative of the prince, and that marriage will help the family’s status. Juliet does not love Paris and does not want to marry him. She loves Romeo. Her feelings do not matter because her parents get to decide whom she marries. Her parents think they know what is best for Juliet, but their decision leads to her death. I do not believe that parents always know what is best for their children. Parents should choose when to take control and when to give their children control. The Capulets thought they made the right choice for Juliet but they did not. I believe that parents want to do what is best for their children, but, at some point, the children need to start to make their own decisions so that they mature and have more freedom. Children will eventually grow up and have to make their own decisions, therefor allowing them freedom at younger ages will train them better for being adults. There needs to be a healthy mix of control for children to grow up the best.

Parents need to have a good mix. If they do, it will give the kids freedom, but not too much. This way they are free but controlled and can learn how to make good decisions and become good adults. I think if Juliet’s parents had taken the time to listen to her and understand her they would have realized that making her marry Paris was a mistake. She might have lived if they did.
