Do you play a sport? Many kids start sports as young as 5 years old. Imagine little Jimmy he loves to play baseball and he plays all year long, Jimmy is only 13 but he is very dedicated. Jimmy was at practice throwing pitches wham, wham, wham then all of a sudden his arm tensed up with a sharp pain he couldn't move it. This could mean Jimmy would never be able to play baseball again. This happens to many kids overuse injuries are very serious, according to American Academy of Pediatrics “3.5 million kids under the age of 14 receive medical treatment for sports injuries each year, around half of those are overuse injuries.” (Crouch,2016) But they can be prevented If Jimmy would have lifted or done a strength building workout things might have …show more content…

Crouch explains in her article playing with pain that, overuse injuries tend to happen when kids specialize on one sport five days a week all year long. later on, she quotes Hyman saying “playing a variety of sports will help you from burning out and make you an all-around better athlete.”(Crouch 2016) this proves that youth sports over your injuries can be prevented by not specializing so young and switch up the muscles you are training and getting involved in other sports.in addition to switching up your workout it is also important to manage the amount of time spent active.“As a rule of thumb, McGuine says, kids should limit the number of hours they participate in organized sports each week to the number of years they've been alive — or less. "So a 10-year-old should not play or practice more than 10 hours a week," he says. Because of this, there is no reason that kids should be pulled out of beneficial sports.some disagree that Too much practice and specialization can hurt instead of help child athletes. (Aschwanden,2014) nevertheless, youth sports do create healthier life siles and teach lifelong lessons. “Clearly, sports can help you reach your fitness goals and maintain a healthy weight. However, they also encourage healthy decision-making such as not smoking and not drinking.
