Addiction is a severe disease that affects many people. People experiment with drugs in many different ways and for different reasons. I knew working with addiction would always be challenging. When working with clients, they need to be the center of attention. Overcoming addiction takes a lot of willpower and support. The most important thing people need to know about addiction, which I have learned is that addiction is a chronic disease. Addicts are unable to stop using. Yes, the first initial experience may be the addict's fault. However once there is continuous use, addicts brain changes and they no longer have control over their behaviors. They have a strong desire to use and can not seem to stop. As a clinician, I will do all I can to encourage and support clients struggling with addiction. I will find the best treatment approach the clients will benefit from so they can make a successful recovery. …show more content…

Mental illness affects moods, behaviors, and the quality of life of individuals. Initials with mental illness face challenges and may find it to overcome on their own. It’s important to understand that there are many different types of mental illness that affect people in different ways. Within each mental illness, people may have very different symptoms and challenges. There are various interventions in treatment a mental illness. Clinicians need t o find the right t form of treatment fo their clients. As a clinician, I will be sensitive to the needs and feelings of my client.
I also learned that there is not that enough funding for mental health services. The government needs to provide more funding resources so those will mental health can get treatment. Access to services, support from loved ones, and the ability to participate in communities play a big part in the way people experience mental illnesses.
