I'm choosing to write about the short story called “The Most Dangerous Game.” This story begins with two sailors, coasting down an eerie stream with nothing but the moonlight to illuminate the soft waters. The two sailors began to talk about the mysterious island, not to far away from their current position. As Sanger Rainsford's fellow sailor leaves to catch some shut eye, Rainsford finds himself carelessly near the boat's edge. As if fate was not on his side, Rainsford falls in. “The Most Dangerous Game” clearly catches the readers attention, since just before Rainsford fell, his partner was telling him the chilling story about the island not to far off. Left with no other choice, Rainsford goes to the looming house, and knocks. From here, the reader will meet General Zaroff and his frightening assistant. The story continues to unfold, with General Zaroff helping Rainsford, acting like an interesting host. This puts the reader into questioning, forcing them to ponder the idea of “what is this man all about?” Over dinner, Zaroff and Rainsford have an intense conversation about hunting. Rainsford, being an avid hunter, was very interested in Zaroff's grand collection of animal skins and mounted heads. However, as Zaroff continues to tell of his hunting experiences, the reader may began to pick up on the twisted mind of Zaroff. As words continued to be exchanged, Zaroff tells of his sick passion, hunting humans. Rainsford immediately feels uncomfortable and frightened, wishing to leave, but General Zaroff has a different plan in mind. At this point, the reader may be shocked, growing more interested in the story, yet frightened for Rainsford. General Zaroff proposes a deal, Rainsford may leave if he beats the General in a hunt.
