St Catharine’s Santa Claus Parade
Around this time of year we are all anxious for Christmas and what better way to prepare ourselves then to attend a Santa Claus Parade. I attended the St Catharines Santa Claus Parade in Downtown. I had many observations during my presence at the parade. The observations lead me to question why does this event takes place all over the world on every third Sunday in November. Usually it takes place in every city. The Santa Claus Parade has a significant influence on the regional culture of St Catharines.
I conducted my observations on Sunday November 20th, 2016 at 3:30pm in the streets of Downtown St Catharines. It was extremely cold that afternoon while waiting on the sides of the streets with hundreds of people. There were numerous observations I made at the parade but to start I will remark on what I seen at this event. The people, floats, banners, Christmas decorations compose an image for the word Santa Claus parade. The significance of what I heard was that the music and band are what make the parade lively and luring. The significance of what I felt was how one should normally feel when attending this kind of event and to make me want to stay until it was over. The significance of what I seen, heard, and felt all together was that this parade achieved its goal of getting people in the Christmas spirit, as it’s the season within the community. It prepared everyone for the upcoming holidays. My interpretation of the parade from the perspective of other attenders, who were mainly families who celebrate Christmas is that it’s a Sunday afternoon and Christmas is just around the corner, why not spend some time with each other at the parade as a pre celebration for Christmas and the

Any person, place or event that has held the honour of being commemorated in Canada has been recognized of an extreme importance to the country. It is impossible to research commemoration in Canada without reading about world war one and two; The great wars are arguably the most commemorated events in History let alone Canada. The play “A Christmas Carol – A ghost story of Christmas” by Charles Dickson, directed by James Black in Houston, TX was performed in a similar way in “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickson, directed by Michael Wilson in Washington, D.C. The both plays had similarities and differences throughout the play in which demonstrated different creativity from the different directors. The rating that was given by the reviewer of the play in Washington gave a 5 out of 5 star rating. For the play that I went to watch the rating I would give it would be a 5 star rating.
Therefore, all the characters in the story are being inhumane by going through with this tradition. At least one of them should have stepped up and not participated to send a message against this inhumane activity that is held every year. It can be seen today and happens in the world today. C. What are some interesting things that you have learned about the multicultural Canadian Christmas?
How can one truly be happy? According to psychologist Karyn Hall, radical acceptance of oneself is the only way to live a happy, healthy life. In Charles Dickens’s novel, “A Christmas Carol”, the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, declares that he will live in the past, present, and future. By the end of the story, Scrooge radically accepts himself, learns to love others, and copes with his anxiety. Scrooge’s declaration to live in the past, present, and future demonstrates his ability to overcome his suffering and become empathetic of the world. Although it is not possible for Scrooge to completely overcome his anxiety, he learns to radically accept it.
Few people can confidently say why the United States celebrates Christmas on December 25. And I imagine even fewer people know why we give gifts, or why we pucker up when we find ourselves under some mistletoe. The answers to these questions are under a thick layer of rich human and mythological history. For me, the majority of these discoveries were absolutely shocking—Christ was never in Christmas.

His greedy, cruel, and grumpy demeanor is replaced seemingly overnight, but he doesn’t just wake up and decide to be nice. It takes three Spirits to change his outlook on life - The Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Future. The Ghost of Christmas Past makes Scrooge begin to regret his selfishness, and the Ghost of Christmas Present begins to teach him about others. This second Ghost helps to make him realize that money doesn't buy happiness. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, however, teaches the most profound lesson of all: unless he changes, no one will care if Scrooge dies. Because of the Ghosts, by Christmas morning Ebenezer Scrooge is a completely different person from the man who went to bed on Christmas Eve.
On a cold December night, I was in charge of a float that will be in Kingsville’s Christmas parade. The past few month, my team and I worked on the cannon that was suppose to fire and make as much noise as possible. We did the calculation, we got the materials, and we put it all together. It was about 8 feet long and 4 inches wide. We tested the cannon for 2 days and found it to be what we needed for the parade. We painted the cannon red and put a white stripe of tape to make it look more like a candy cane than a cannon. It looked and sounded as good as I wanted it too.

Although Santa has become the main staple of the Christmas season it is important to remember the true reason for the season. Jesus’ birth is what December 25 began as until Saint Nicholas day merged with it. Even though the character that has developed and encountered extremely drastic changes, he has almost always been a giving generous figure in society. “Santa is ‘an invention of the advertising industry’ and ‘a representative of consumer society,’ according to Bonifatiuswerk der deutschen Katholiken [Boniface of German Catholics], which seeks to restore St. Nicholas to his proper place in the Christmas season” (Sweas).
Frosty the Snowman waves hello alongside Santa 's reindeer that are ready to take off. Candy canes line the sidewalk and the ginger bread dolls dance in a merry circle. The trees all sparkle with thousands of red, yellow, purple, blue, and orange lights. Out back, Mary and Joseph stand over baby Jesus, Choo-Choo train’s chug in spot, stars twinkle with bright yellow bulbs, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause wave in the distance. Kerkhoven, MN, the location of the happiest house on the block. Every year my breath is always taken away as my eyes struggle to soak in the utter abundance of Christmas spirit. The preparation for this big event starts months in advance. Cofradias are the like the coordinators of the event. In English, Cofradias means brotherhood and they work together to plan and make sure the entire holiday is taken care of. They are also known as the “Heart of the Holy Week”. Confradias have to map out the route of the parade for every day of the week. The parts of the parade that are on main streets have bleachers on the sides for seating. However, these seats must be booked far in advance and are very costly. Cofradias also have to make sure that there are police and security so that the holiday is safe and peaceful. Canada is least famous for its Christmas Markets, yet it owns some. In the last few years, Christmas Markets flourished in Toronto, Vancouver, Quebec and other regions in Canada. People can find wonderful Christmas themed presents to buy from these Markets.
