St Catharine’s Santa Claus Parade

Around this time of year we are all anxious for Christmas and what better way to prepare ourselves then to attend a Santa Claus Parade. I attended the St Catharines Santa Claus Parade in Downtown. I had many observations during my presence at the parade. The observations lead me to question why does this event takes place all over the world on every third Sunday in November. Usually it takes place in every city. The Santa Claus Parade has a significant influence on the regional culture of St Catharines.

I conducted my observations on Sunday November 20th, 2016 at 3:30pm in the streets of Downtown St Catharines. It was extremely cold that afternoon while waiting on the sides of the streets with hundreds of people. There were numerous observations I made at the parade but to start I will remark on what I seen at this event. The people, floats, banners, Christmas decorations compose an image for the word Santa Claus parade. The significance of what I heard was that the music and band are what make the parade lively and luring. The significance of what I felt was how one should normally feel when attending this kind of event and to make me want to stay until it was over. The significance of what I seen, heard, and felt all together was that this parade achieved its goal of getting people in the Christmas spirit, as it’s the season within the community. It prepared everyone for the upcoming holidays. My interpretation of the parade from the perspective of other attenders, who were mainly families who celebrate Christmas is that it’s a Sunday afternoon and Christmas is just around the corner, why not spend some time with each other at the parade as a pre celebration for Christmas and the
