Despite the many environmental mishaps that has caused much agitation amongst general population, there are also many benefits which can ultimately boost Australia’s economy. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is supporting the creation of a nuclear fuel industry in Australia, which has many experts predicting profits nearing 35 billion dollars for South Australia. Each year on average, nuclear power plants generate a revenue of around $420 million dollars in economic value. And the operation of nuclear power plants provides 400-700 permanent jobs. And construction of the plant would create around 3,000 jobs. The article “Nuclear Waste” is an interesting perspective from Richard Muller. Muller is a very credited author and he speaks his mind about the situation where people are trying to figure out how to deal with nuclear waste around the U.S. There are many proposed ideas but Muller has a very simple and straight forward idea that he believes is the ideal decision. Animals will also benefit from the change to clean energy. It is often reported that animals are constantly displaced and injured by the different forms of energy we are currently using. Andrew B. The burning of fossil fuels releases greenhouse gases, which is what causes global warming. The transition to using fewer resources like these and using more nuclear power for energy will benefit the environment greatly. Arctic environments will not suffer, and ocean levels won’t rise. Global warming can even cause an increase in tropical storms. In the city, cars already release a ton of carbon emissions into the atmosphere, so using nuclear power will show a small decrease in pollution over time. Also, the health of citizens will slightly improve, but there will still be the fumes released from cars. Even though this would only be a small decrease in pollution, every little bit helps towards the Earth.
Nuclear energy is produced from the splitting of millions of uranium atoms in a very interesting process called fission. This type of process is used in big power plants where there are numerous tools and machinery that help produce the energy. From generators to pumps to turbines and transformers there are up to 12 main components that all come and work together to create high amounts of electricity. The fission process is used to produce a lot of heat and steam from the reactor where uranium rods are placed. That very hot steam then travels to big turbines and spins them through the generator to generate and produce high amounts of electricity. The electricity then travels to transformers and from there it travels through land wires that run hundreds of miles into cities and towns (World Nuclear Association [WNA], 2014).
Media coverage of such cases have made the public less comfortable with the idea of moving further towards nuclear power and they only opt for reducing human activities to reduce global warming. It is true that there have been some notable disasters involving nuclear power, but compared to other power systems, nuclear power has an impressive track record. First, it is less harmful and second, it will be able to cater for the growing world population. Nuclear power produces clean energy and it delivers it at a cost that is competitive in the energy market (Patterson). According to the US Energy Information Administration, there are currently 65 such plants in the Unite States (National Research Council). They produce 19 percent of the total US energy generation.

Nuclear power, the use of exothermic nuclear processes to produce an enormous amount of electricity and heat for domestic, medical, military and industrial purposes i.e. “By the end of 2012 2346.3 kilowatt hours (KWh) of electricity was generated by nuclear reactors around the world” (International atomic energy agency Vienna, 2013, p.13). However, with that been said it is evident that the process of generating electricity from a nuclear reactor has numerous health and environmental safety issues.
As one of the greatest alternatives to fossil fuels, an important advantage of nuclear energy is the significantly lower emission rate of CO2 in comparison to plants which use coal and natural gas.2 Nuclear power is not reliant on fossil fuels and therefore producing energy by this method reduces pollution and the contribution to climate change. However, whilst the actual process of generating energy releases few emissions, uranium must be mined and purified and in the past this has not always been an environmentally clean process.2 Ultimately, uranium will one day run out, but nuclear reactors are versatile and may also run on Thorium.
