In the play A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen, Nora is portrayed as a juvenile and dependent women who transitions to an independent and mature women due to Torvalds belittlement and her own mistreatment of herself to prove that even after years of oppression and being treated as an object, anyone can choose to break the cycle, be their own person, and live for themselves. Torvald treats Nora as though she is his child as opposed to being his wife. He gives her an allowance, which in this instance it can be said that he treats her even lower than a child because he delegates what she spends her allowance on and how much of an allowance she gets, at least children, when they get an allowance, are able to decide what they spend it on, but she wasn’t …show more content…

Many couples give each other nicknames; however, the nicknames between Trovald and Nora are different. The nicknames are firstly different because Nora doesn’t give a nickname to Torvald yet he gives Nora multiple ones. Also, the nicknames Nora have are odd to say the least, "My little skylark" is one of the peculiar nicknames given to Nora by Trovald, a skylark is a silly looking bird, which although he might not have thought Nora`s outer appearance reflected a skylark, he did think she had a very silly personality considering that he often called her actions …show more content…

She was so used to her father’s treatment that she didn’t realize it was a twisted love that she had found with Torvald. Her father always forced beliefs onto Nora and in an effort not to upset him; she would suppress her own beliefs. She goes behind Torvalds back and gets a loan and forges her father’s name. Although this may seem like a way he belittles her, she aids in this joviality because she plays into his fantasy of him being the ruler of the money and her only being able to spend the amount he wants her to spend and on what she spends the money on, she allows him to dictate her. Telling him about the loan as soon as she got it would have been the adult approach to it instead of going behind his back, like a child would do. Regardless of if he signed the loan or not, it’s a more mature act to discuss it with your husband instead of forging her deceased fathers’ name. Once it became apparent that Krogstad would possibly tell about her crime, she should have told Torvald about it instead of promising Krogstad the job.
