The night terrors definition is feelings of great fear experienced on suddenly waking in the night. Night terrors are more common in children than in adults. It's very similar to a nightmare but with a far more dramatic presentation. Night terrors occur during a deep non-REM sleep, unlike nightmares that occur during REM.
