Trusting Hitler More Than God Book: Elie Wiesel narrates the novel Night, a story about how he, moving from concentration camps in Poland to Germany, conquers the physical and mental hardships of the Holocaust as a teenage boy. Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor, recreates his thoughts and experiences. The author wants readers to know and have a deeper understanding of the life of a teenage Jew during the Holocaust. Elie, the teenage main character, helps young readers to have a stronger relationship and connection with the story. Survival during religious persecution exists as the theme of this novel; Elie still believes in his God but does not understand why God allows a multitude of Jewish people die. Elie, hopeless, does the only thing he could do besides work, pray. Thus, Night, an emotional journey during the Holocaust, details Elie Wiesel’s struggle with his religion and belief in god. Head: Some elements of the story seem expected and others a surprise. Elie, not staying in one concentration camp and constantly moving, surprised me. Towards the end of the novel, only twelve out of one hundred lived through the terrible train ride, stunning me. This put into perspective the number of people that had lost their life; however, Elie and his father remained together. In addition, Elie remembers every detail from his life during the Holocaust. He knows the feelings he had and put these feelings into words for readers to understand. For example, Elie recreates the suspense he experiences when he passes the crematorium thinking death
