The genre of romantic comedies, or rom coms, tell light hearted and humorous stories which appeal to a wide audience. An example of a romantic comedy is Never Been Kissed which explores the life of the protagonist, Josie Geller, who is very career driven and is yet to have her first kiss. This film appeals to people as it offers enough laughs and touching moments to please the audience.

The protagonist of the film is Josie Geller, a career driven woman who has never had her first kiss. Her current job as a copy editor at the newspaper, the Chicago Sun-Times does not satisfy her as she aspires to to be a journalist. Unexpectedly, she is given an undercover job at a high school to help parents be more aware of what their children do at school. Josie's first day on the job immediately reflects what she was like in her first experience at high school - a nerd and socially awkward. During the film there is a subplot about her brother, Rob, who is the polar opposite of Josie, popular and everything she wanted to be in high school. His dream was to become a professional baseball player but when that failed he gave up and took a job at the tiki post.
