National Children’s Alliance was formed in 1988. It’s a body for Children Advocacy Centers. The Advocacy Centers are child friendly facilities for law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical and victim advocacy professionals work together to investigate abuse, help children heal from abuse and hold the offender’s accountable. There are currently over 700 children advocacy centers throughout the communities across the United States . The National Children’s Alliance have partnered with organizations such as the National Child Abuse Coalition, National Coalition to End Child Abuse Deaths, American Academy of Pediatrics and many others. Childhelp was founded in 1959 by Sara O’ Meara and Yvonne Fedderson. Both women were selected out of hundreds to travel and entertain Soldiers during the Korean War in what was known as government-sponsored goodwill tour. When they got to Tokyo it was shut down because of a Typhoon. They were alerted to stay indoors. After days of being cooped in the hotel room Sara and Yvonne decided to get out and get some fresh air. While sight seeing they stumbled as to what appeared to be orphans that looked helpless. Sara and Yvonne smuggled the kids back into their hotels room and bathed, feed and played with them. The next day Sara and Yvonne went on a quest to find an orphanage that would take the eleven kids but were turned down by everyone because their was no room and the kids were Japanese Americans. Reality had set in and Sara and Yvonne knew they had to do something. Sara and Yvonne decided to start their own orphanage. The International Orphans was founded to support the 11 Japanese-American children. Before leaving Sara and Yvonne learned about a woman by the name of Kin Oruchi (lovingly known as Mama Kin) who lived in a one-room hut that was already caring for orphans. Mama Kin agreed with Sara and Yvonne to take the 11 orphans in and word spread. Within three weeks Mama Kin had a hundred extra children. The soldiers then help to expand Mama Kin hut into a comfortable home to accommodate the orphans Mama Kin took in with agreement that Sara and Yvonne would provide financial
