In high schools, students are assigned books to read by their teachers, as a requirement. Most students do not enjoy the reading, but most of the books assigned are not relatable to them. Teachers should choose books to assign to students that are more contemporary, and that are more relatable to the students. Books like Mockingjay and Bronx Masquerade should be assigned, not books like The Scarlet Letter. The Scarlet Letter is a book written by Nathaniel Hawthorne; this was written and takes place 200 years ago, which is the 1850’s. The language of this book is very old-timey, which makes it hard to understand. Also, if it is thought about, during the novel, nothing really happens for fifty pages at a time.
