As a group we collectively decided the standard established in the National Association of Social Work (NASW) code of ethics and201 KAR 23:080. Code of ethical conduct provides the best guidelines for the non-profit agency. Section 3.07 Administration, 3.09 Commitments to employers, Section 4.02 Discrimination, and KAR 23:080 are the most important standards for being the human resources manager at the non-profit agency. The NASW code of ethics gives social work professionals a cornerstone for the ethical dilemmas that arise within the agency while helping the agency, the social worker, and the supervisor with the decision making process for the treatment and service of the clients. Section 3.07 is vital to the organization as it defines the quality we seek in an administrator. Knowing the qualities of an administrator will affect the supervisor in a positive manner, as hiring a qualified administrator would secure an advocate for the clients, ensure recruiting staff that are a worthy match for the agency, and provide resources for adequate staff supervision.
Section 3.09 discusses the various reasons the social worker is required to remain committed to the agency. As a result, recruiting employees that adhere to the guidelines in 3.09 is essential to the success of the agency and the supervisor fulfilling his/her role, since employees that are committed to the employer value the role of the agency and the supervisor therefore adhering to the demands of the supervisor whilst ensuring the agency success by following the rules. However, there is one incident of lack of diversity among employees and another that violates the code of ethics that governs the social work profession.
Examples of incidents witnessed by group members’ include; the countless times the agency work with outside resources for the clients’ well-being (NASW, 1999), partnering with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, KidSpot, LIfeskills, and the parks and recreation departments for both the City of Bowling Green and Warren County, so the agency received significant discounts in an effort to allow the agency to utilize their resources for the kids.
Another group member states, “there is no such thing as discrimination at the current practicum site”. Every client is treated fairly and with respect and so are the workers. Another example for following the standard of practice is seen, whenever a new employee begin employment a staff meeting is held so fellow employees and practicum students are able to make suggestions about welcoming him/her into the
