Narrative Essay I’ve been on many backpacking trips in my life, ever since I could walk I was camping with my dad and brother. There will always be special places with memories I have from these trips, like Rabbit Ears, the first place I ever backpacked, or Lost Creek wilderness, a place I’ve backpacked in several times in different years with many different memories on it’s own. However, the best and most memorable trip would be my trip to Parika Lake. Parika Lake is located just inside Rocky Mountain National Park, and the trailhead is off of highway 34. Every year I had passed this trailhead going up to my condo in winter park and had undoubtedly seen it, but little did I know of the beauty that lay at the end of the trail. From the trailhead however, you can not even see the mountain of which Parika Lake sits in the shadow of. The trailhead itself looks to be a small pull off at the side of the rode with less than a dozen parking spots, because this isn’t a day hiking trail or some light, easy backpack for some out-of-staters on vacation. …show more content…

A fork in the trail leads you around the lake in each direction, directly across the lake is a small hill, overlooking the whole lake, the perfect campsite. We rounded the lake and climbed the small hill, and claimed our perfect campsite, tent hidden from view behind shrubbery, but with in steps you’d be overlooking the lake and out into the valley. Our camp was on the only shelf of the hill, and directly behind the hill was a large open meadow, lush and green from the spring run off. The meadow was the only thing separating us from the mountain, looming in the background. Grazing in the meadow were two moose, who would reside there throughout our stay. We didn’t go much of anywhere while staying at Parika Lake, usually we go on day hikes while backpacking, but we were perfectly content staying at the lake and walking
