Napoleon Bonaparte was the son of Carlo Buonaparte and Letizia Romolino. Napoleon was a very successful French military leader, a political leader, and an emperor who conquered much of Europe in the 19th century. Napoleon was the greatest soldier of his age and ranks among one of the most famous military leaders of all time. Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica in Italy into a noble Italian family. He began his education at an all boys school in Ajaccio, then at the age of ten he went on to study at the Royal Military school in Brienne, France. France quickly declined and suffered without him, so as you can imagine his exile did not last very long. In March of 1815 Napoleon left the island and made his way to Paris. He then returned to power after King Louis XVII fled, but the people of France questioned his leadership and decision making. On June 16, 1815 Napoleon led his army into Belgium and after a long war defeated the Prussians, but then only 2 days later he was defeated by the British which was built by previous Prussian fighters. This battle was called the Battle of Waterloo. It was an embarrassing loss for Napoleon and on June 22, 1815 he made the decision to resign. After Napoleon's resignation from Power, The British government feared a repeat of his earlier return from Exile on Elba, so they sent him to the remote Island of St. Helena. The island was very private and was located in the Southern part of the Atlantic Ocean. Napoleon did not have any rules or restrictions on the island and was free to do pretty much whatever he wanted. He read and wrote a lot, but the long days and routines got to him and he began to stay in doors pretty much the whole day. Then, on May 5, 1821, Napoleon passed away on the island due to what they think was a stomach ulcer or even possibly cancer.
