The book, My Sister's Keeper, is a 418 page fiction novel published in 2003. The book stands on its own as it is not apart of a series. My Sister's Keeper can be described as an amazing read full of action and tension. The book was written by Jodi Picoult. Jodi Picoult is an American writer who earned the New England best fiction seller in 2003. Currently fourteen million of her books are in print worldwide, translated into 34 languages (New York Times 2014). She is known as the author who writes gothic novels that describe her life. Many of her books contain questionable narrators, which she developed the passion for after reading the Great Gatsby. Writer Jodi Picoult shares that she appreciates F. The main character, Anna, was born to be a donor for her sister Kate, who is dying from Leukemia. The fear of losing Kate caused her parents to genetically modify a child that would be perfect donor for her. Kates mother states, “Daughter trumps everything, no matter what the game.”(46.) The main conflict in this book is when Kate begins to go into kidney failure. At this time Anna, age thirteen, is told that she will be Kates kidney donor. Anna then makes an impulsive decision to hire a lawyer, Alexander Campbell, to represent her as she fights for her rights to her body. Anna tells Campbell, “I want to sue [my parents] for the rights to my own body.”(95) The conflict resolved itself when Anna testifies in court that the only reason why she did this was because Kate asked her to because Kate was tired of living a sick life thus, tying back into the main theme of the story. Anna tells the judge, “I was convinced by somone, Kate.”(378) Up until this point, their mother has believed that Anna was being cynical for not donating her kidney.
