Birthdate: I was born 08.28.1996, in Oslo, Norway. On this specific day Princess Diana and Prince Charles got a divorce. The price of a gallon of gas in the US, was 1.251 in August, the minimum federal wage was , the median family income was about 35 492 dollars. A popular movie in august 1996 was Matilda, based on Roald Dahl's book with the same name. The temperature that day was about 72 and cloudy. Date of most recent birthday: 08.28. 2013, was my 17th birthday, and my first birthday celebrated somewhere else that wasn't Norway. I just moved to Lakeway, Austin and I celebrated my birthday to go out and eat a small dinner with a new friend I made here. That day there were the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, where over 200 000 people went back to DC to remember Martin Luther King's speech, «I Have a Dream». The price of a gallon of gas was 3.645 in August, the minimum federal wage was, and the median family income was 52 236 dollars. A popular song then, was Robin Thicke's, «Blurred Lines». The temperature that day was 90 and sunny. 9/11: On September 11, 2001, hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers, the World Trade Center in New York, Manhattan. An Islamic extremist group was responsible for the attack and killed over 3,000 people trapped in the towers and the airplanes, including many hundreds of policemen and firefighters. This event was significant to US history because it made the us more aware of the threat of terrorism. Hurricane Katrina: The 25th of August, 2005 an awful hurricane hit the Gulf Coast and flooded parts of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. Many people were driven from their homes because of the destructive flood that ended up causing $100 billion because of the damage it caused. ... ... middle of paper ... ...publican nominee where running against each other. The World Wide Web, also known as “www” was made to make textdocuments, pictures, multimedia and other types of information available over internet. It was also supposed to make it a lot easier to search for whatever and whomever. It changed everything to how we used computers; it changed the way we live today: it changed the world. 1992 Dream Team: United States basketball team was known for being the best sports team of basketball players ever, with their coach Chuck Daly. In the Olympics Games, held in Barcelona in 1992, US played their final game against Croatia, beating them with 44 points, getting a gold medal. They became very popular after their victory and the people over the US were very proud.

A Category 3, named storm, named Hurricane Katrina, hit the Gulf Coast on the 29th of August and led to the death of 1,836 and millions of dollars’ worth of damage (Waple 2005). The majority of the damage occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana. Waple writes in her article that winds “gusted over 100 mph in New Orleans, just west of the eye” (Waple 2005). Not only was the majority of the damage due to the direct catastrophes of the storm but also city’s levees could no longer hold thus breaking and releasing great masses of water. Approximately, 80% of the city was submerged at sea level. Despite the vast amount of damage and danger all throughout the city, officials claimed that there was work being done to restore the city of New Orleans as a whole but many parts, and even the people, of the city were overlooked while areas of the city with higher economic value, and more tourist traffic, were prioritized along with those individuals.
