My Career In Dentistry

I certainly didn’t always know that I wanted to pursue a career in dentistry. My father is not a dentist, nor is my mother; and honestly my dad’s teeth are pretty jacked up. Although my dad did not put any pressure on me in terms of picking a career field, he did put pressure on me to get involved in organized sports at an early age. Getting involved with sports early on gave me an outlet for staying physically active, having fun, and making friends (and dexterity practice of course). There were a tremendous amount of life lessons that I have picked up from being part of a team that I believe will prepare me for not only dental school, but continuing into a life-long career in dentistry. My sporting career started off as a sure second baseman with a left handed batting stance that stifled little league pitchers. I also tried my hand at tackle football where I was a three yards and a cloud of dust running back and I am proud to say I never fumbled the ball once. I even tried out for my 8th grade basketball team having never played an organized game in my life. I luckily drained a couple threes in try-outs and happily accepted my role as an end of the bench hype man. The way his staff listen and responded opened my eyes to the “team” aspect of dentistry. It seemed like he was able to assign everyone a specific role, to use his or her talents to make his dental practice run as efficiently as possible. After that day I realized what makes dentistry such a desirable field to me. Being able to be a leader of a team who all committed to providing oral health care procedures that will improve peoples’ daily lives and overall self-image will be more rewarding than any touch down I have ever
