My grandfather always told me,”Your future lies before you like a path of untrodden snow, be careful how you step on it, because every mark will show.” Before making a major decision I reiterate this quote in my head, and make my choice based on the positive effect it will have on my future. At the tender age of ten months old, my mother left me in Jamaica, in the care of my paternal grandparents and father, to embark on a journey which she hoped will one day allow her to live the American Dream. Although I lived eleven years of my life without my mother, I was guided and directed in a virtuous path, that will proclaim me successful at the end. There are many factors that shaped my personal life, helped me to accomplish my academics success and formed my aspirations in life. Living in a very loving home has shaped my personal life. My grandmother played the role of the mother I did not know. She taught me to be respectful and tolerant of self and others in spite of their differences. I was fortunate enough to attend a private, Catholic, preparatory school from the age of three, until I was twelve years old. I was credited a scholarship to attend one of the most prestigious schools in the island: The Westwood High; which is currently the seventh best high school in Jamaica. Through the years I learned the ethics of work, responsibility, discipline and the value of hard work and integrity. At first chance, I completed all my tasks diligently, to the best of my ability, for only my best was ever good enough. Growing up, I was never told I had to do my homework, I loved everything about school. I was self-driven and an independent thinker.
