A person that exemplifies the concept of citizenship is Muhammed Ali. Muhammed Ali was a well known boxer, but he also had a strong bond with the citizens, and political influence on them. People started to see this when Muhammad refused to be drafted into the Vietnam War. Muhammed once said, “Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on Brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights…The real enemy of my people is here. I will not disgrace my religion, my people or myself by becoming a tool to enslave those who are fighting for their own justice, freedom and equality…” Muhammed felt that he didn’t have the support …show more content…

He did that by supporting charities which included, AIDS, Children, Family/Parent Support, Health, Homelessness, Human Rights, Hunger, Literacy, Mental Challenges, Miscellaneous, Physical Challenges, and Poverty. Along with donating he built a help center called Muhammad Ali Center, right in his hometown Louisville, Kentucky, and was also the founder of the World Organization for Right, Liberty, and Dignity. This shows that Muhammed cared about the community and he wanted to create that bond with the citizens. The level of involvement Muhammed Ali had was in the 6 to 8 level. I would say this because he volunteered his time and donated more than the average person. He did so much to make the citizens in the country benefit, from donating to building a help center for those in need. He also protested against things he believed were wrong based on his our values and beliefs. For example, when he protested against being drafted in the war, or when he expressed his thoughts on stopping brutal racial discrimination. Even though that could have affected his career of boxing.
