The Shakespearean play “Much Ado About Nothing” is considered to be a comedy that is filled with deception, love, public shaming, honor, and social grace. The main focus of this paper will be about the characters relationship and meaning of love in this story. By examining the characters relationships in the play Much Ado, we can see Shakespeare arguing that love is achieved through commitment, trust, and understanding. One character in particular truly did not understand the concept of relationship and he is known to lack commitment. Eventually, as the story progresses we see a change in his character. Now that the lying and deceitfulness are over the healing can begin. With healing comes honesty and with honesty comes trust. In the end, Shakespeare wanted to show that it is possible to achieve true love and in order for this to happen there must be a commitment, trust, and understanding. He shows this through his characters at the end by having a fairytale ending by having them have a happy relationship. Although this play mostly shows the usage of deception. Deception plays a huge role in the play and a huge role in Benedick and Beatrice relationship. In most cases, the usage of deception is used to cause harm to someone. So for deception to be used in such a way as it was used in this play is weird, but interesting at the same time. Deception in this play is used in a positive way in order for the two characters Beatrice and Benedick to realize their feelings. The main idea for this play even though it a comedy Shakespeare demonstrated that the characters have an unusual relationship and that even though it ended happily they went through their ups and downs.
