The Blind Side shows the readers multiple times throughout this story that, in life, there are many difficulties, but it is always important to stay positive and do your very best to achieve your life goals. The Blind Side is a football story about a 16 year old African American homeless teenager named Michael Oher. His dad was murdered while he was in high school, and his mom has some very bad addictions to crack and cocaine. As a result, Michael does not live with her anymore. The two that stood out to me the most were, how he is extremely shy and how athletic he is. Michael is extremely shy due to his lack of social skills and ability to avoid social situations in general. In one of Michael’s interviews with a coach he completely shuts down and doesn't say a single word nor does he fill out any of the paperwork. This was the first the coach has never gotten any answers out of a player. Also, Michael tries avoiding Sean Tuohy when he first meets him by lying about how he has everything he needs just so Sean would leave him alone. Although Michael’s strategy didn't work, he felt very uncomfortable in his first encounter with Sean. For these reason it really shows that Michael is an extremely shy guy. The other characteristic of Michael is that he is very athletic. When Tony took his son and Michael to get enrolled in the school, Michael surprises the football coach with his basketball skills while just passing time shooting baskets. Another way he showed his athletic ability was in football.
