The narrative argument in “Me Talk Pretty One Day” was represented by how the author’s was accused by his French teacher, due to his ability of not being able to pronounce and understand French that well. His main argument of the article was that understanding a language doesn’t mean you can speak it, it about taking it slowly, one step at a time and progressing it. To support his claim, Pathos and personal experience was used. Through Pathos, the author uses emotions to connect with the audiences. For example, from the author personal experience, he states, “My fear and discomfort crept beyond the borders of my classroom and accompanied me out onto the wide boulevards, where, no matter how hard I tried, there was no escaping the feeling of terror I felt whenever anyone asked me a question”. This statement helps the author to connect with the audience because it shows how terrified he was and the hardship that he has been through. Although he is forty years old, he still couldn’t stop himself from crying because understanding the language was complicated and he couldn’t handle the humiliation of mispronouncing the words and accusation from his professor. One of the author’s techniques to overcome his issue was to spend more time than he usually does; doing his French assignments than other homework. An example from the author’s story would be devoting his time to French more than writing an essay. Another technique that the author used was, to taking things slowly and doing it with one step at a time. Although the author struggled of not being able to understand what his professor says, through hard work and dedication, he was able to achieve his goal at the end, which learning to speak beautifully and understand what the professor
