Martin Luther King Junior lived a life full of major accomplishments. He was an influence on many African Americans during the Civil Rights Movement and had a major impact on society at the time. He stood up for Civil Rights for a majority of his life and he gave many speeches, his most famous being the “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial. King also made it a major point to never use any sort of violence in his protests, a principle he had based off of Ghandi. King was assassinated in 1968, but his legacy still continues to live on today, and his dream will forever live on. Even though there were many people who did not share his views, even though he had thousands upon thousands of people in the country who hated him and what he was doing, he still had a dream. And he still wanted his dream to come true, no matter how much trouble he had to go through. Another famous quote King’s said in “I Have a Dream” is: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” This quote is probably one of the most well-known quotes from “I Have a Dream.” It shows that Martin Luther King Junior is hoping that his dream is fulfilled soon, which shows his determination yet again. In my opinion, King’s “I Have a Dream” speech did certainly help with the segregation issues that were going on in America at the time. However, racism still is an issue that could possibly continue to go on forever. However, racism definitely isn’t as extreme as it used to be. The bullet from Ray’s gun stuck King in the head and neck while he was standing on the balcony of his hotel room. Even though King died almost fifty years ago, his legacy still continues to live on today. For example, the King Center in Atlanta, Georgia is a living memorial of King’s Dream of an equal and free world without segregation and discrimination. Also, there is a memorial for King near the Lincoln Memorial (where King gave his “I Have a Dream” speech.) The memorial invited visitors to reflect on MLK’s life and legacy. King’s legacy not only lives on in physical ways, such as buildings and monuments, but also in the minds and hearts of many. In conclusion, Martin Luther King Junior’s life was full of countless accomplishments. He was a non-violent protester and spokesman who was a huge impact on the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
