“We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.” Martin Luther King Jr was one of the most important people who worked really hard to demolish racial discriminations and better the lives of every single African-Americans in the United States. He refused to hide or run away from his extreme hardships and firmly determined to continue until the end to fight off the issue of civil rights. He talked with God’s words and looked at the world at peace and equality. Despite of horrible threats from the white people, he tried and challenged even more to step up to the stage and give hope to every innocent black people as well as stating his and his people’s opinion about this issue. He met his wife, Corertta Scott, in Boston, and together, they participated in various campaigns to fight against the rights of black people. He became the member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People as well as the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. His teaching and dreams of justice became realities after his death that is still affecting many people in this day. In total, he traveled six million miles moving from place to place, making numerous speeches where he thought there was injustice and prejudice. During the journey, he wrote five books of his beliefs and experiences, and published many articles in newspapers and magazines. Mahatma Gandhi’s teaching greatly inspired the beliefs of Martin Luther King. Their beliefs were somewhat similar because Martin Luther King also believed that protests should be nonviolent. Nevertheless, Gandhi showed him how the nonviolent protest can be powerful than anything else. The death threats, threatening letters, and violence against him did not detract him from avoiding the issue. During his long journey, he had faced many sad things such as the deaths of many black people. If we were in the position of Martin Luther King, it would be extremely difficult and virtually impossible to sacrifice our lives for others. These days, many people tend to walk through the easiest path they could find, and thus, we often fall under a deep swamp obstacle. However, from him, I learned that walking in the right path regardless of the distance is highly important. He has taught me to always try harder and harder and even collide against it if necessary, to overcome the difficulties. Martin Luther King Jr. is the most admirable and one of the only people I consider to respect him a lot.
