The Fourth Order from the Sun The capacity of self-awareness can broaden greatly when placed in an unfamiliar environment. We are all born with an egocentric nature; we all have a natural self-awareness. Throughout The Martian Chronicles loneliness, insecurity, and emotional self-awareness are demonstrated and used to unite the novel. To begin, the topic of loneliness self-awareness is revealed by Ray Bradbury throughout this book. Mrs. K is having dreams about a man, Captain Nathaniel York. Dreams can evolve around things a person is lacking or thinking about. She is obviously lacking attention from Mr. K. Prichard the taxpayer is a man who desperately wants to get on the rocket ship that is going to Mar’s for the third expedition. His reasoning is that earth is an entrapment to his survival as a human being. Prichard says, “There was going to be a big atomic war on Earth in about two years, and he didn’t want to be here when it happened” (Bradbury 40). He tries desperately to load onto the rocket that would soon be leaving this ordinary world, but they take him away to jail. Captain John Black from the third expedition is now lying in bed beside his so called “brother”. His emotional provoked feelings of the overwhelming day are fading away and the logical or realistic theories began to flood his mind. His emotions are being overthrown by seeing his family and he lets his guard down, making it open playing grounds for the Martian’s. In summary, The Martian Chronicles is a story with many themes and perspectives. Self-awareness is again, manifested through Mr. and Mrs. K, Mr. Samuel Teece, Prichard the taxpayer, and Captain John Black.
