Doomed by controversies, Marshall Mathers III, better known as “Eminem” is a worldwide phenomenon. He is one of the world’s top selling rap artist who has sold more than 73 million albums worldwide. His exceptional rap skills made thousands of listeners fall in love with “hip-hop rap music”. Also knows as the “Slim Shady”, he is the one of the worlds most famous living gangster rap artist. His album, The Marshall Mathers LP is known to be the worlds fastest selling rap album of all time, fastest selling album by an individual artist and the second fastest selling album of all time. Dre, the Beastie Boys, 2pac, Run DMC, LL Cool J. (etc). Marshall Mathers was heavily influenced by his uncle Ronnie, who had introduced him to “rap music”. Eminem tells in Eminem Talking, “When I was nine years old, my Uncle Ronnie put me on to the Breakin’ soundtrack. The first rap song I ever heard was Ice-T, ‘Reckless.’ From LL [Cool J] to the Fat Boys, and all that [stuff] I was fascinated. When LL first came out with ‘I’m Bad’ I wanted to do it, to rhyme. Standing in front of the mirror, I wanted to be like LL.” His uncle Ronnie was also a fan of rap music and would make music tapes for Marshall, who used to listen to it and study rap music. Ronnie was the first person that made Marshall fell in love with rap music. Later on when he was separated from his uncle and had matured in those years he would listen to a lot of rap music and the artists who inspired him the most was the Beastie Boys. It was hard for Marshall to overcome all the obstacles and make a name for himself. The fact that he was a white person who was rapping around the clubs of Detroit, he faced a lot of racial abuse from the crowd. Rap music is dominantly black but he didn’t care and kept going forward. However, with all these obstacles, slowly and steadily Eminem started to make a name for himself. He won the support of the crowd, won many competitions and was also invited to perform on live radio station. Tragedy occurred when Marshall found out that his uncle Ronnie had died and that left him in severe depression as he was very close to his uncle.
