Blind Person Essay

Sometimes I wonder how it feels not to know what the world looks like, or how green the grass might be, or even getting the full experience of tasting the foods in the world that bring such comfort to one 's heart. But it is sad to say that this happens to be a blind person’s interpretation on life every day. But with the new technology coming out every day, the blind will no longer have to feel excluded from the world. Dr. Dennis Hong, the founder and director of RoMela, came up with the thought of,” What if a blind person could physically drive an everyday vehicle?” When I saw this TED talk it automatically touched my soul to the point that I knew I had to research more. To make the blind be able to drive a real life car a reality, it is …show more content…

This allows for the vehicle to get an estimate on where you are at all times. It will basically get the vehicle ready for any type of sharp turns or construction. Another component to perception would be cameras put on all sides of the vehicle. This helps the car to detect the actual lane that the car is in, so this prevents swerving from lane to lane or bumping into other cars as your driving. And one last component would have to be lasers on the front and back of the vehicle. This is going to help you detect the random objects in the road that could possibly mess up your car frame. This will also protect the driver from anyone crossing the street or even any major potholes in the roadway.

When Dr. Hong was trying to come up on how to perform this very difficult task of how to incorporate a blind person in a real driving car, he knew he had to have two things, instructive and, or informative feedback to the actual driver himself. He was trying to see what would possibly be the easiest form of task for the driver. Because if you had too much go on, then it could in some way distract the driver. So he was trying to see which of these would help the driver in the most efficient …show more content…

Dennis Hong came up with this idea, not only to help the blind in becoming one with everything, and every other human being in the world. The Dr. came up with this idea so it could help, but also push for technology to help on other things. For instance the Airpix would have to be just used for driving. You could probably actually take an art class, and feel what that image is. The gloves with the vibrating elements, could take on another idea of helping the blind walk a little more efficiently. Without having to bump into everything with a stick. Which can sometimes be very dangerous, depending on where you could be walking to. All this technology like Dr. Dennis Hong had said can even be put into making cars a safer and better vehicle to travel in. Just think if every car had a vibrating mechanism telling you, when you are about to hit something. Are say for instance you wanna set the car in cruise control, instead of it halfway being in cruise control, because it is just monitoring the speed. It would actually steer the car for you going down the highway. Now that is what i like to call a true virgin of cruise control. Even if this idea does not go into place in the real world, it will still help spread the ideals of newer, safer technology out there. This research has really opened my eyes to how big an imagination can spread, and open doors to bigger and brighter ideas. This idea is still being brought into existence, but like Dr. Dennis Hong said all you need is
