Throughout the semester we have studied different types of Buddhism and their roots. We have been informed of many facts and this class, I believe has cleared up any speculations about what many believe is true and false about Buddhism. One interesting form of Buddhism that stuck out to me was, Mahayana Buddhism. Mahayana Buddhism interested me the most because of its Culture and the texts and historical information that helped it to grown into a beautiful brnch of Buddhism. Mahayana Buddhism first appeared in the first century bce, and was viewed as a type of Buddhism that was less complex and more understandable. It is known as the Greater Vehicle. The greater vehicle is also a cover for the Greater Ox-Cart. Mahayana Buddhism is known as a more flexible form of Buddhism. It allows for not only monks and people of higher rank to be a part of it, but people from all over can join this way of life. Mahayana Buddhism is the most predominant form of Buddhism in Northern Asia, Tibet, China, Mongolia, Korea and Japan. Mahayana Buddhists want to and hope to become boddhisatvas. One of the most important teachings of the Mahayana is that in order to receive enlightenment of boddhisvattas, one must show great compassion. Those beings that follow that order, postpone nirvana in order to assist people who are still trapped in the cycle of rebirths and who are still suffering in it. Those who pursue this duty which is what the Mahayana call the ability to know distinctively the emotional capacity of an individual and to give them guidance to get through their cycles. As the Mahayana moved beyond that of India they developed a vast number of Buddhas, boddhisattvas and other beings who possess a certain level of power.
