The sense of magical realism is a natural product of literature. Letting aside literature, in reviewing the circumstances of nature of the world, it can be observed that there are a lot of elements that are expressing magical things which are also real. For instance, a sudden change in the weather at a same place from autumn to spring describes a phenomenon, a thunderstone or a sudden earth quick that demolished many long lasting things. A former grows a seed and it gives birth to a plant which becomes a tall tree or it brings many beautiful flowers onto its boughs. The appearance of Sun and Moon in a planned intervals all these happenings have a logic behind it.

Marquez and Anaya did not hesitate to make liberal use of magical realism, both as a way to create tension in their stories and to contact the deeper hearing of their audience. Magical realism was just another tool in their literary boxes, to be used with skill and discretion for the greater benefit of the tale being told. It worked well for the cantadora, sitting in the doorway weaving her basket as she wove her tale and it works equally well today as we pause from our lives, quiet our souls, and prepare to listen as the story unfolds.

Marquez's "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" fulfills every characteristic of Magical Realism. His short story contains magic that exists in a realistic background. One can easily see why Marquez is such a forerunner in the field of Magical Realism.
The reason why William Golding chose to write his work “Lord of the Flies” is because the book was based on his own emotional views of mankind and his disconnection with his parent’s view of the world. His emotional views of mankind also stemmed from being a part of WWII as a member of the Royal Navy where he witnessed many deaths. Golding wanted to share with his readers the true complexity of the rise and fall of social order and the concept of survival of the fittest. Ironically, at the end of the book, a naval officer was their savior.
It is a long and unusual journey. I still wonder what it really is. I read the selections of four wonderful authors and I am still a little confused about the real history and theory of magical realism. I do know that before a person gets into this idea of magical realism, he or she really has to have a big imagination and willingness to learn about it. I guess what I am trying to say is that magical realism depends on who a person is and what a person is willing to believe.
Magical realism is a genre in which extraordinary events are incorporated into the ordinary world, usually referred to as realistic fiction. In Latin American culture many authors use this type of literature to describe phenomenal events that occur within our ordinary world. Magical realism can be analyzed through different novels, short stories and movies, for example, Bless me, Ultima, by Rudolfo Anaya, “The Night Face Up,” by Julio Cortazar, “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings,” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and the movie Big Fish by Tim Burton. Magical realism is a style of writing used to link the abnormal with the ordinary.

However, there may be one that is not as well-known as these: Magical Realism. Although Magical Realism is mostly common in the Latin American countries, one may wonder where and how Magical Realism got its start. On the other hand, one may simply wonder what some of the characteristics of Magical Realism are. By looking at the history and theory of Magical Realism as well as some of its characteristics and influences, these questions will be answered.
Author, Gabriel Marquez was born to a remote town near the coast of the Caribbean seacoast of Colombia and spent the majority of his life living in Central America as a writer (“Gabriel Garcia Marquez”) Magic Realism is primarily of Latin- American origin; “In Latin America…there is an attitude among certain portions of the population that anything can happen” (Kennedy). In consideration of the origin of Magic Realism, Marquez involves a historic basis for, “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings”. A nations history influences various culture and religious practice which among a variety of other influences, impact the tradition, art, and literary works produced. Magical Realism is the way in which a person views the world through a type of art. Magical realism deals with emotions, and it also discovers what is mysterious and meaningful in life. According to Franz Roh, in painting, is the way a person views the world through art (18, 20). Magical Realism has many characteristics that include many other ideas. Magical Realism can be observed in other subject areas, too, such as the logotherapy of Victor Frankl.
In order to see how Magical Realism is found in this treatment, one must first consider at least one of the identifying marks of Magical Realism. Among the characteristics that identify Magical Realism is the feeling of transcendence that the reader has while reading a Magical Realist text (Simpkins 150). During transcendence, a reader senses something that is beyond the real world. At the same time, however, the reader still feels as if he or she were rooted in the world (Sandner 52). After the reader undergoes transcendence, then he or she should have a different outlook on life.
Obviously the most concise definition of magical realism is that it is the combination of magical and real elements. The magical elements that exist in works of magical realism are; superstitions, exaggerations, dreams that come true, universal humor and the coincidence of bizarre events. All of these Elements are present within Chronicle of a Death Foretold.
