For a person’s body to maintain proper heath and gain the right and necessary nutrients there are several factors that work together to provide the most benefit to that person’s body. There is the importance of Macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients are carbohydrates, protein, lipids, and water, and required in large amounts as chemical compounds that people consume. Micronutrients classified are vitamins and Minerals. Vitamins aid the function of macronutrients and help in metabolism, immunity, and digestion. Minerals aid the bodily functions, the body requires seven major minerals and trace minerals that have different roles throughout the body. They aid the functioning of macronutrients and help them in metabolism, immunity, and digestion(McGuire & Beerman). Each vitamin plays a certain role with helping maintaining proper health. Vitamin A also known as fat-soluble vitamins help maintain healthy teeth, bones, soft tissue, and skin (Vitamins, n.d.). Dairy products, vegetables, and fruits like cantaloupe, apricots, and mangos are sources for vitamin A. Vitamin B is important for production of energy, immune function, and absorbing iron. Unprocessed foods such as whole grains, potatoes, beans, yeast, and bananas are a natural source for vitamin B. Vitamin C is an ascorbic acid that helps the body absorb iron, wound healing, and maintain healthy tissue (Vitamins, n.d.). Many fruits and vegetables contain vitamin C such as guava, peppers, citrus fruits, Brussel sprouts, and the most common source oranges. Vitamin D, is made by the body after being in the sun, and helps the body absorb calcium (Vitamins, n.d.). Calcium is important for the body’s development and maintaining healthy teeth and bones. People that do not live in an area that is not sunny and during the winter time can get vitamin D through supplements as an alternative. Vitamin E helps with blood circulation which in found in vitamins and other nuts to get the benefits. The body requires seven major minerals: calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, chloride, potassium, and sulfur (McGuire & Beerman, 2013). Calcium helps with the formation of bones and muscle contraction, found in dairy products and leafy vegetables. Phosphorus helps filter out waste in the kidneys, and plays the role of how the body stores and uses energy; it is found in milk, grains, and protein-rich foods. Magnesium stimulates the important enzymes and is found in whole grains, and nuts. Sodium provides nerve function and is found in fruits and vegetables. Chloride is an important electrolyte in the blood what is commonly found in salt. Potassium conducts electricity in the body, and are found in meats. Sulfur plays physiological roles throughout the body which it is found in many foods such as eggs, onions, kale, broccoli, meats, nuts and seafood. Apart from the major minerals there are trace mineral that work together in the body. Iron transfers oxygen throughout the body, and is found in green vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains. Fluoride strengthens bones and prevents tooth decay. To meet the fluoride requirement people, consume foods and beverages that contain fluoride and use dental products that contain fluoride.
