What Parents Should Look For in a Christian School

When looking into any school a parent will be concerned with their child’s safety and academic success. Looking into Christian schools allows a parent to have a bigger say in the morals, knowledge, and experiences that their child will walk away with.

Shared Values

Does the school share your mission as a Christian? Children spend an average of eight hours per day five days a week at school. These influential hours should be expanding and encouraging the values that you are expressing at home. Check that the instructors are modeling the behaviors and beliefs that you teach at home. Teachers should love and fear the Lord and those values will be reflected in their classrooms. The …show more content…

Make sure that you feel these commandments are being encouraged and lived out by the school’s educators. Some of the other specific values that parents look for in a Christian School include: glorifying God, pursuing personal holiness, honesty, servanthood, forgiveness, faithfulness, and obedience.

Christian Curriculum

Deuteronomy 11 says to “teach [the Laws of Moses] to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” In every aspect of life, we are to continue to teach the laws and the scripture of the Bible. This applies to a school’s curriculum as well. Students should be taught how to apply the truths in scripture to their everyday lives. They should be taught Bible stories and Christian history. The opportunity for Chapel encourages students to memorize scriptures and learn worship music.

Look for a school with a lower staff to student ratio. Schools with lower classroom numbers provide increased opportunities for individualized attention which leads to greater academic achievement. If continuing education is important to you and your child, check with the school on their rate of students who go on to pursue a college or university education.
