"Little Women" in the Women Rights Movement Americans tend to believe that men are always the oppositional forces to the Women Rights Movement. Men's forces in political, social, and cultural prevented female to gain more power to be treated similar as men, but there are also many instances where women have stood in the way of progress. Louisa May Alcott's Little Women (1880) successfully represents the Women Rights Movement's affect during the 19th century, which leaded by Elizabeth Cady Stanton in 1848. When Aunt March argued with Meg about if she should married John, her opinion on marriage clearly represent other females' opinion in the 19th century, "So, you intend to marry a men without money, position, or business, and go on working harder than you do now, when you might be comfortable all your days by minding me and doing better?" (Alcott 134). Several questions asked by Aunt March proved rules of her marriage, to live better life depend on her husband. Her words perfectly show the female who is inflexible follow the old tradition and have no desire to change. Another quote completely against Aunt March's opinion on marriage and female's role in the society, which is said by four girls mother, Mrs. March, "I'd rather see you poor men's wives, if you were happy, beloved, contented, than queens on thrones, without self-respect and peace" (Alcott 57). Based on those two quotes, Alcott demonstrated a distinctive changed on women marriage and their self-achievements. Female started to evolve into the history development not only because of the WRM, but also the WWII and Civil Wars. The population of male decreased a lot after wars in US, so that female had to join in raise their families. And National Labor Union helped female to get their wages
