Logistics and manufacturing companies are currently using or moving towards automated systems that increase productivity. “Hand Held Products launched the world's first commercially viable hand held barcode wand scanner in 1972.” (barcoding, 2003, para. 3) Almost forty years later the technology has become mainstream and utilized in the majority of businesses. Also, since 1972 the price of hand held scanners has dramatically dropped.

It is another extremely hectic Monday in the Emergency Department. The waiting room is building up fast with many new walk-in patients. Fire Rescue trucks are calling one after the next with several medical and trauma cases. The hospital supervisor is calling to inform the Charge Nurse of the Emergency Department that the Operating Room has several cases that need beds and will supersede the Emergency Department admits. Patient through put will now be further delayed. This is just one example of a typical Monday and why Teamwork and Collaboration are vital components to run an efficient nursing unit, especially in the Emergency Department. A hospital is a difficult place to run because there so many aspects to manage. There are many types of doctors and nurses, and so many departments in this type of facility. The patients come in a wide variety of different ailments, needs, colors, sizes, personalities, and beliefs. Not to mention, with all of the equipment, devices, and people coming and going a hospital can seem like a small town in itself. That is why it will take a group effort, open communication, and positive reinforcement to keep it running smoothly. I will address this case study by identifying each problem, advise an adequate solution for each problem, and give a reason for each solution.

This paper is briefing of book called “Race against the Machine” written by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee. This paper focuses on the impact of technology on the current employment issues. Three explanations of current economic issues that is cyclical, stagnantion and “end of work” is provided (Brynjolfsson & McAfee, 2011). Then the idea of excessive progress in technology making man jobless is presented and to support it various arguments are put forward. Secondly the idea of technology development causing division of labor into high skilled, low skilled, capital, labor, superstars and ordinary labors is presented and explained in detail. Finally remedies for solving these issues are presented and explained. Major takeaways of this paper are mismatch between the productivity and job creation, interlink between Technology improvement and division of labor and importance of education in building stable skilled labors and in the developing a stable society. This report has clearly in detail described the meaning, benefits as well as the need and challenges of the RFID in the supply chain system. While RFID comes with a larger magnitude of benefits than the bar code, it’s an expensive medium and comes at a price that may be prohibitive to many businesses. On the one hand, RFID is advantageous in different areas of the supply chain and does not require line-of-sight scanning; it helps in labor reduction, enhances visibility of products and processes , and helps in inventory management. On the other hand, RFID is an expensive solution, lacking benchmarks or standards, suffers from some adverse deployment issues, and suffers from major privacy concerns. They are used to track products through shipment, track products at a store and speed up and enhance the checkout process, as well as allowing faster access to information. Barcodes began to be used heavily in the 1970’s. This began a great movement in the consumer industry, speeding up the checkout process and allowing easier inventory tracking. However, just like all technologies, barcodes have been enhanced many times over and are being replaced by better, more efficient systems (Bonsor).
Ever since the Industrial Revolution (1780s), the impact of technology has been subject to public debate over its effect on employment – does it cause unemployment or does it underlie the huge increases in standards of living (Jones 1996, p.11)?
