At the Muncie police department victim advocacy, I have increased my ability of communication in a few different ways. The first way that I have increased my communication skills is in the writing area. The way that I have increased my writing skills is by writing briefs about the police reports that come in to the office. The police reports that come in the victim advocate officer are ones that deal with people who have been victimized (battery, domestic violence, or threats of harm). The reason why I write briefs about this is because they have to be put into a police outreach system where letters are sent out to the victim offering the services of the victim advocate office. These briefs have taught me to provide as much information as possible
Ideas of community, social progress, and culture are an ever-evolving social work issue. How do we as social workers choose to approach needs of groups and communities at the macro level? In order to grasp an understanding of true helping systems it is important for one to have a range of knowledge to justly participate within the formal helping structures an models that comprise of the social work field. In attempt to create our identity as active justice based social workers it is essential for one to conceptualize the framework of intersectionality. According to Kirsten-Ashmen, “Intersectionality involves the idea that people are complex and can belong to multiple, overlapping diverse groups “The intersectional perspective acknowledge the breath of the human experience, instead of conceptualizing social relationships and identities separately in terms of either race or class or gender or age or sexual orientation”; rather an intersectional approach focuses on the “interactional affects” of belonging to multiple groups (p. 48).” In order to remain committed to intersectionality I will apply theories and models to a progressing community in the city of Boston. A critical analysis of the strengths and weakness within each theory related to the specific community will be discussed. I will expose the intersecting layers, allowing for identity development through the lens of the macro social worker. I will begin by discussing my experience through the research process with my team members. After giving a detailed description of the project we can further explore the empowerment theory and systems theory to better explain the development of Dudley Street. The two theories are able to give an understanding of Roxbury’s forward progre...

The first issue to be tackled for an offender is a drug referral if needed since other interventions and programs will not have much effect if the offender will not retain them due to drug use. These treatment facilities communicate with the probation officers. They keep them informed on the offender’s progress and/or issues the offender has. The lower risk offenders are eligible for treatment programs. (Loftus, lecture)
Being probation officers can be interesting and challenging because they are often required to work in high crime environment, so sometimes offenders would carry firearms on them to protect themselves. The probation officer gets to meet with all different walks in life and get to hear all different story. The most challenge is when you communicate with the offenders, some offenders tend to have angry issue, so you have to control your emotions and try to calm them down and befriend them, so that they respect you and listen to you. By working with the offenders to help them stop offending, probation officers are actually required to transform people’s lives. It would be hard for them not to, because it is one of their roles in the job. Often
The offender must meet with the probation officers in the schedule dates. In case the offenders is not doing what she/he are suppose to do their probation could be revoked which means that most likely they would go back to jail. Probation officers are in charge of different offenders with different criminal offenses. Probation officers have a big caseload. Probation officers main goal is for offenders to rehabilitate and built better lives that doesn't involve criminal activity. A probation officer duty is to main contact with the offender and at least go see him once a month. The probation officer should visit the offender at his house, school, or work. The offenders also have to meet up with the probation officer at the Probation Center. A day in the life of a probation officers varies, they are always risking their life because they meet up with offenders from minor offenses to murder. A probation officer is trying to change the lives of criminals and sometimes it is impossible to help the criminals if they keep choosing
These issues related to overloading casework are complicated by additional trends in community-based corrections. Probation was once a place for relatively low-level offenders that posed little threat to public safety and were mostly in need of pro-social steering (Petersilia,1998) (DeMichele, 2007). Probation and Parole reviewed each and every case files in simplest for compliance with many division policies and procedures. Probation and Parole compares the number of contacts in and at different field officers made to the number of contacts required to be made to ensure the offender are assigned to the correct level of supervision based on the division's availability, and determined if violation and case summary reports are completed in a timely and accurately (McCaskill, 2006).
There is some important history he or she should know about the profession. Probation and parole officers have been around for quite some time. They are very important in the society we have today.
The primary purpose is to investigate stakeholder’s involvement for victims. Additionally, to see what victims are recognized as a stakeholder. Another purpose was to show how the courts change the victim’s roles as stakeholders. This program was planned to provide a service to victims. Furthermore, Woods discusses how restorative justice changes literature in the late 1900’s.
This approach has introduced a criminal justice policy agenda. In the past, victims to criminal activities have been outsiders to the criminal conflict. In recent times, many efforts have been made to give the victims a more central role in the criminal justice system. Some of these efforts were introduced a few years back, though even at that time, these efforts were seen as long overdue. Some of these efforts include access to state compensation and forms of practical support. For advocates of restorative justice, crime is perceived primarily as a violation of people and relationships, and the aim is to make amends for all the harm suffered by victims, offenders and communities. The most commonly used forms of restorative justice include direct mediation, indirect mediation, restorative cautioning, sentencing panels or circles and conferencing. In recent...
In recent years the role of victims in the criminal justice system has risen into prominence, inspiring much research into victim experience and possible reform. There are a multitude of factors that influence policy makers in relation to reforming the criminal justice system, one of which is victims. However, victims while they can be catalysts for reforms such as the case of James Ramage among others, they still play a relatively minor role in influencing policy change.
Correction has now moved from that of retributive to rehabilitative and doing so has also implemented certain institutions to assist in the rehabilitation process. Such institutions involve offer two basic service called ‘probation and parole’. Probation and Parole are very similar in that they are both dealing with someone who has broken the law and is a substitute to incarceration; both systems are used by judges in dealing with offenders. Probation deals with offenders before they enter the prison system and it is called a suspension of sentence. This sentence is handed down to you by a judge (Abadinsky, 2012). Once a judge sanction your probation you are assigned a probation officer and you are now known as the probationer until you have successfully completed your requirements as ordered by the judge; then you will be released from your service.
