Imagine a country where the government censors everything and their citizens aren’t allowed to speak against the government or say what may be on their mind. These citizens are watched by surveillance cameras and recordings which listen in to their conversations and what is going on in their daily lives. Now imagine yourself in a country where you are allowed to speak your mind without the government having to put you to jail or execute you for being a traitor to the country. Freedom is speech is important where it helps people from anywhere in the world to be able to express their own ideas free from any unwarranted governmental intrusion. Some limits are that the Freedom of Speech will enable people to use defamation which enables the person to say untrue things that will hurt a person’s reputation. Freedom of Speech doesn’t protect people from being defamed but people always want to find a way to make a certain person look bad and our opinions matter because we can state what we think or perceive is correct. Another limit of the Freedom of Speech is that it enables people to use statements intended and likely to produce violence. Freedom of Speech also doesn’t protect us from people’s statements because they have the freedom to choose what they wish to say and what not to say because that is their opinion and that is protected. The last limit of Freedom of Speech is that it lets people show obscenity which is where people can show certain things which can be seen as obscene like sexual images or objects. The Freedom of Speech protects people who use obscenity because it is their opinion but there has to be limits to what person should do or not do according to the
